We have a glorious 15 year old water-cooled Honda ES6500 generator on wheels (it's like a hand cart) that looks like new and starts the first time, every time.
This is our winter-storm-outage gennie. Once it's purring along, we connect it to a GenTran switch and power much of the house. It's definitely not something I'd take camping, as when compared against newer inverter generators from Honda it is (1) very heavy and (2) loud. Two people can lift it into a truck bed, though that's not fun unless it's part of an Iron Man competition. OTOH, it was not designed to be taken camping.
Our experience with this unit has convinced us that if we ever went shopping for a smaller, lighter and quieter generator to take camping, we'd start by looking at Honda products.

Depends on the model....below are for USA-spec products, as of 11/2014:
Large, open frame EB/EM/EG series generators are made at a Honda plant in China.
Super-quiet inverter models including the EU3000i, EU3000is and EM5000is are made at a Honda plant in Japan.
Highly popular EU2000i and EU1000i portables are made at a Honda plant in Thailand.
Finally, the big EU7000is super-quiet inverter is made at a Honda plant in India.
So what about the USA plant in Swepsonville, North Carolina? Well, they make:
• All Honda lawn mowers, for both USA and Canada, and many European markets.
• Single-stage snow blowers (USA and Canada)
• String Trimmers (4-stroke)
• The FG1100 4-stroke mini-tiller
And finally, the US plant makes hundreds of thousands of loose, general-purpose Honda engines, mostly for other lawn mower companies. A lot of these engines are also made for use with pressure washers, go-karts, log-splitters, and even other generator companies.

I love it when someone posts facts and not guesses.... Like I might do I thought some of the generators might be made in the US. Thanks for the correction.

Yes, many, many EU2000i units were made in Japan, but production switched last year to Thailand. If the "Made in ...." sticker is missing, you can tell by serial numbers:
Serial numbers EAXJ- were made in Japan.
Serial number EAXT were made in Thailand.

I was mislead by this announcement in August of this year as follows:
"Honda Corporate also had another announcement — that the Swepsonville plant will become the first one in North America to start making generators."
Honda plant in Swepsonville to undergo $8.5M expansion | myfox8.com
This may not be a reality as of yet but if it does become true, I may have to go back to a small Honda. I am thinking that an EU2000i at about 50 lbs could be mounted over the batteries on my AS and used when I need only to charge the batteries or make espresso, microwave, etc.

Honda has factories building their products in many parts of the world. These plants build to Honda standards, regardless of location.

As with many products, chances are they are made in numerous places around the globe.
Just because you drive a Ford, Chevy or Dodge doesn't mean it was built here in the U. S.
My '98 Dodge 2,500 was made in Mexico.
My '08 Tundra was built in Indiana.
It is a global market.

My 1000i which I purchased just this year has a serial # that starts with EZGA, wonder if that means it was made in the USA... Would be great news if it was.

The dealer probably kept it, thinking you didn't want the box. I specifically said I wanted to keep my box or my dealer would have done the same.

It would be great if there was an option for electric start on an EU200i. Mounted on the tongue it would be near the batteries anyway, easy to connect. Just push a button to get it going and start making the morning coffee without getting dressed to go outside!

Sooooooo....What *I'm* really interested in, is if anyone has run the Smarter Tools generators in tandem with an a/c (not that many folks would be doing this in the dead of winter). It would seems that it could be done, but I was looking for real world experience

I checked Consumer Reports - so far it hasn't rated anything smaller than the EU7000is / EU 6500is. The EU7000is won that category and was particularly noted for how quiet it is relative to the others ("especially quiet at 23 feet"), though they also noted that it lacks a fuel shut-off valve. The Rigid RD906812B is a strong second in that category, though louder ("neither loud nor quiet at 23 feet") at 1/4 the price, with slightly better power output characteristics.
Too bad they didn't report the actual DB at 23 feet. In every case they recommended hearing protection when close to the generator.

We bought the same generator to top off the batteries on our 27 International FB and it works great and it is quiet. We live in a very quiet area and when I'm charging the batteries I can't hear the generator if I am 50' away. However, I do want to install solar panels on the trailer to minimize the generator usage. Any suggestions on solar panel brands/kits etc is much appreciated.

Some here on the forums are using portable solar, e.g. Zamp. I just plan to use the 12v system for lights, water pump and some phone/camera battery charging so no heavy inverter use so a portable panel system is what I'm looking at purchasing soon. Park the trailer under the trees and put the panel in the sun. Others go with roof mounted panels, inverter/chargers, 4 batteries. It just depends on what you want to do electrically.
