I have been reading a lot of reviews on the Ryobi 2200 watt generator, and they have mostly been favorable. The price is right too at $549 from Home Depot and they can be run in parallel.

Save your money and pay a extra hundred bucks and get the 3100 from Champion. Great unit will run your AC without a problem, weighs the same and as quite as the Honda Handi. I spent about 20 hours researching generators before pulling the trigger and so happy with this unit, but I am sure the Honda and Yamaha mafia here will talk you out of it!

I doubt anyone here will "talk you out of it mafia style"....I think that the reputations of yamaha and honda are commendable...but I also love competition, and I hope people will try these other types and even show sound level checks under load for comparison.

I own 2 Honda 2000s, which I am very happy with . You should buy the Costco one to try, obviously you will be the first one on this forum! I bought mine on Craigslist 2 years ago for $1400/pr. At the time the Chinese had not copied the Honda / Yamaha parallel gens yet, but I knew it was just a matter of time! I wouldn't worry about "resale" value, b/c chances are you won't sell them anyway.Let us know how they work...Brian

I've looked at the Champion, and it reads pretty competitive.

You know what I mean, people are so brand loyal that they put their blinders on and not even look at the alternatives. Its actually pretty funny same guys saying Chinese products suck are they same type of guys who said they same stuff about Japanese products and now they are the most reliable. Just a matter of time before the Chinese own all aspects of manufacturing and become not only most reliable but also the best value. In many products, they all ready are, since we don't build jack anymore! Rant over

Brand loyalty? Folks can only recommend equipment that they own and use.

As always, forum posts are personal opinions: take them or leave them!

It's a fair price. Really value the Costco no-hassle return policy. Reckon I will buy within a week, and will report.

Not part of a mafia but we may try to talk people out of Chinese generators if we have to camp close to them. On the other hand maybe they have improved the noise, but they had a long way to go.

Look forward to your tests, WJ!! If it truly runs at 51 dBs, there'll be a lineup of AS owners at Costco in short order!!

Generac has a 2K inverter generator for $589.99. Available on line and at our local Bomgaars store. Haven't checked the noise level specs.

Not to be a carmudgeon, but if your primary concern is low price, then go on and keep buying your equipment from China and soon your prophesy will become self-fulfilling!

From my point of view, I'm more than willing to go out of my way and spend a few more bucks for ANYTHING as long as it's NOT MADE IN CHINA!!!!!! (Taiwan is NOT included in this prohibition). As always....YMMV!

^^^^^^^^

You two most likely own a honda or yamaha and never even looked at the Champion 3100. Or even better you are an authorized dealer!

Even generator threads are getting contentious! Previously limited mostly to TVs and hitches. Sheesh!!

It'd be cool if Studebaker Onan made an equivalent unit.

I bought several conventional Champion 1.5 kw portable units for myself and relatives to keep just in case of emergency. I use one for remote power, odd jobs in the back yard, etc., but it is not practical for the AS. I really like the Honda and Yamaha units, super-quiet. Reckon for $599 it's worth a try, pass or fail, and reporting the findings to my friends here is value-add.

I find it interesting that some members always bash stuff made in China.
But the chances are that the device they use to get on this forum is probably made in China.
I haven't looked at the Honda or Yamaha. Are you sure they are not manufactured in China to a Japanese design?
I can remember when people bashed Toyota back in the sixty's.. Now they are the number one automaker in the world.
There is no longer a totally 100% made in America automaker.
It's a world market.
About the only thing made here is Mom's Apple Pie. And even then the apples might be from South America.
