I was just surfing e-Bay and found this gem.
I started laughing.
The seller wants $950, local pickup only!
However, it probably runs great!

Hi

My gotcha with the 3000 and even more with the 7000 is the weight of the beast as well as the size with wheels. Getting one in the truck ... yikes. Ever getting it out of the truck when away from home ... double yikes. Yes, I could pack some sort of hoist. I simply don't have that much "extra" space in the truck. There's also the very minor point that a F-250 only has just so much axle capacity

There ... umm .... errr .... cough .... *might* be a 3000is out there in the garage ... umm ... errr .... Not going to fit under the cover on my truck. Great for backup for the house though. It was there long before we bought the AS.

Of course one *could* always head over and see if Ford was willing to sell me a shiny new F-450 dually long bed. That would go over *real* well with the wife

I'm with Uncle Bob....I love my Champion 3400 Duel Fuel...quiet, efficient, and lighter then said Honda's above...I don't typically need AC up here in the Rockies of Montana and Northern states in the summer, so I can take my smaller Champion 2000 on most trips. But the Dual Fuel is the "go to" generator when I need AC while in southern states.

Can't beat the price for either unit compared to the Honda or Yamahas same size generators; weight and noise is about the same for comparable units also...but Champion offers the Dual Fuel out of the box.

"Why 2 generators you ask"?...got the 2000 Champion first 5 years ago; light weight (45lbs) and inexpensive compared to the Honda /Yamaha 2000's...then decided I wanted a generator to run AC and also propane...Champion 3400 series was best bang for the buck in that category, was not too heavy (95lbs), was still quiet, and of course, was less then $900 at the time... The Dual Fuel was the right choice for our needs...

Hi

We will be in the high 90's here this weekend with an "equivalent temperature" spiking around 110. Doubtful that it's going to be comfortable "up north" here without A/C.

If it's mid to late July through mid August, you never really know what to expect unless you have a bunch of altitude on your side. Yes, highs are the drama number, humidity and nighttime lows are equally important. We rarely get "dry heat" here.

That said, this weekend Duluth MN will be in the mid 70's with lows in the high 50's .... not a lot of surprise there. Not a lot of altitude involved there

Looking to purchase champion 3400 watt generator remote start. Newegg price was a little bit pricey. Any suggestion?

Do you need it right away? Occasionally NewEgg runs a deal on them. I waited until it went on sale last time and pulled the trigger.

I did a quick Google search and found Costco has the 3100 watt Dual Fuel for $849 but I'd hold out for the 3400 since it runs either of my AC units without an EasyStart.

Hi

Amazon had them for $899 a few weeks back. Right now their price isn't very good. My guess is that this is a time of year everybody is shopping for generators ....

Couple comments; the Champion Dual Fuel 3400 will run both AC's without Easystart...I use it. It does not have remote start, but does have electric start on the unit. The reason for not having remote start is safety with the propane. Closing down the propane when turning off the generator allows the line to clear. Not an inconvenience to me. I like to check things out around the generator anyhow before starting. Oh, and it starts right up every time....

Champion 3400 dual fuel generator great deal

I added an electronic hour meter powered by the spark plug wire to track usage and maintenance intervals. Mounted on top, and of course I matched the yellow color so it looks OEM.

The other thing I did was add a permanent SAE pigtail connection through the battery access panel for a small battery tender to keep the start battery charged. Since this is used as a standby generator and I only run it on propane it does not get run unless I need it.

I plug the Stanley Battery Tender (also yellow) into a 120 VAC outlet when the generator is stored in my garage. On the road, I plug the charger into the 120 volt AC outlet in the bed of my Tacoma to keep the battery properly charged. Just have to remember to switch the truckís inverter on when I start the truck.

All I have to do is connect the propane extension hose line from my A-frame quick connector to the modified generator low pressure regulator (the bigger one on the original setup) and hit the switch.

Plug in the power cord from the front input connector on the trailer and away we go. Instant power from the bed of the truck. Easily runs my Air conditioner.

Of course I leave the tonneau cover locked down to protect against rain and the tailgate all the way open for ventilation and cooling the generator. The generator is pulled back close to the tailgate area when I need it.

Iíll come up with a cleverer and more secure tailgate arrangement when I get a new truck. This works fine for now.

Hi

The big need for an hour meter is so you can change oil at the 100 hour mark.

The big question - will you use the generator more than 100 hours a year? That's (roughly) 20 refills on your 20 pound propane bottle. More or less a fill a week for 20 weeks.

I *know* I won't put that many hours on the generator in a year. I also know that I'll change the oil once a year even if it does not need it (oil is cheap ....).

If indeed I'm anywhere near 20 bottle refills, I very much will have noticed that. Even if I'm running a 40 pounder on the trailer, I'd notice the usage. We go through two or three refills (80 to 120 pounds) a year with a bit over 20 weeks on the road without any generator drain on the propane.

If your usage pattern is indeed pretty heavy, change the oil twice a year .....

This is one similar to the one I got:

https://www.amazon.com/discoGoods-Wa...s%2C230&sr=8-6

I mouted it with the screws to the top of the genertor housing and drilled a tiny hole for the wire and wrapped it around the spark plug lead per the instruction sheet.

Hi

This one is slightly cheaper and has exactly the same spelling errors in the listing. Makes you wonder what other things they missed ..... welcome to Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Indu...55X4N7XN5BYBFF

There obviously are a lot of very similar gizmos that all work exactly the same way. It is not at all clear you need to get one of the $30 or $40 versions rather than one that is $10 or less. Cute features like zeroing the meter usually turn out to be more trouble than they are worth.

They *do* have a battery in them and it will eventually die. Is that in 5 years or 2 years? Who knows ... With the cheap ones, you swap out the whole device (for $10). With the $40 version you change out the battery (for $4 ... hmmm...). I doubt that any of them are going to make it much past 10 years of constant use. One might also wonder just how long the generator will last in constant use ..... Check back in 10 years

They are simple enough to put in and they will not hurt the generator in any way. ( = they can't destroy it). You *do* need to remember about the little wire if you pull the spark plug ( once it falls off the wire ... no more hour counting ).

Like the idea of an Hour Meter. Love my 3400 Dual Fuel

Love my Champion 3400 Dual. Been changing oil twice a year without a meter. Like that Propane means no problems with gummy carburetors from ethanol laced gasoline. Runs A/C well from Altitudes of 300 Ft to 10500 Ft and never breaks a sweat. Great for stops for lunch in the trailer when it's 100 degrees outside. Generator lives in the back of the bed of my 2500HD Silverado by the tailgate, under the tonneau cover. Fuel is from 2 20lb bottles in the bed secured by a Tow-Rax Bottle Rack from e-trailer. To use the gen, I drop the tailgate, connect the propane line and start it up. I carry a extension line to hook up to a port I added to the 30lb tanks on the tongue of the trailer, but have never needed to use it. A 20lb bottle generally lasts about 10-12 hours running the generator. I sure wish the truck bed was lower...I carry a 3 foot Aluminum ladder so I can climb into the bed to get to the bottles so I can get them filled.

Hi

..... don't even *think* about an F-250 with the 4x4 package on it if you think your 2500 is a bit high off the ground

Indeed the height of the truck bed *is* an issue with doing this. I dread the next time I'm in a campsite that slopes the "wrong" way and adds another 6" to the reach. I'm only 6' 4". These trucks are designed for somebody who's a lot taller than I am
