#6 Solar wire entry hole question.

I just purchased a solar system from AM Solar. I am installing two solar panels on the roof of our 2008 23D International. My plan is to mount a junction box above the refrigerator/microwave on the roof outside. I will need to cut a 1" diameter hole in the roof. Any thoughts on problems I may have using this location? I have removed the microwave & on attached picture you can see where I plan on cutting hole in the ceiling & roof. I want to route the wire down into the refrigerator compartment (behind refrigerator, accessing through outside door), then drill a hole in the floor below the refrigerator (above the roadside wheel well) so I can run it under the gaucho to the batteries.

I want to avoid cutting a hole & into something between the walls that will cause problems or damage.

We just came down the refrigerator chimney on the roof so no extra holes were needed on the roof. We used the space behind the refrigerator as a duct space to take the wires whee we needed them. We put the solar isolation switch inside that space beside the refrigerator access hatch.

We put 8 100 watt AM Solar panels on the roof and the WiFi Ranger and Verizon extern ion antenna for their modem on the tool of the refrigerator chimney.

I just finished a 23 installation and upgrade last month and that is the exact spot that I used for the solar wire. Of course, the dealer had buggered up the hole that they made in the same spot using NO BUSHING in the hole so that the old cable from the panel that they installed had rubbed thru the insulation! It looked like they cut the hole with a jig saw rather than a hole saw!!!!!!

You have a continuous run from that area up front for the charge controller and monitor panel. You need to be a bit creative with the wire runs and fish tape, though.

Thanks for the reply. The 23D International has no refrigerator vent on the roof....thus the need for a hole.

I think you were replying to my post about routing the wire through the roof above the microwave on the 23D Airstream. Did you run the wire behind the refrigerator then through the floor under the refrigerator, exiting just above the street side wheel well? Any cautions about where to cut the 1" hole above the microwave?
