1st Big Modification [SOLAR PANELS]

Well, my first big modification/add-on will be solar panels
I have 2005 22ft Safari. My questions are:

1) What type and how many panels should I get?

2) Is it pre-wired for the panels?

3) Should I have the dealer install them or could I pull it off?(diffuculty of job)

4) I'd assume I need a voltage regulator/charger for the panels. What type would be recommended?

as many as you can fit on the roof and afford to buy.

expect to pay ~$5/watt for the panels themselves, plus charge controller and installation. maybe more batteries, also.

i like the amorphous panels, as they are more effective in partial shade sitauations and there is no glass to break like on cyrstalline panels.
amorphous panels cost about the same as crytsalline per watt, but take up more space, as they are less efficient for a given surface area.

flexible amourphous panels are available which could simply be stuck down to the curved surface of your roof, but you pay quite a premium for those compared to regular framed panels (up to $10/watt).

yes, you'll need a solar charge controller. preferably with MPPT and battery temp probe for most effective charging in all conditions. expect to pay a couple hundred bucks for a good one.

What type panels does Airstream use? Would it be cheaper to add your own or get the $1847 _ 0012 _ SOLAR CHARGING SYSTEM option when buying a new unit?
