14.3 Absorption / Float Charge?

I found an old Morning Star SunSaver 10 controller that I had forgotten I had. As an experiment I attached a 100w solar panel into the SunSaver- and then into the trailer batteries. Just prior to that I had my batteries plugged into a BatteryMINDer and the batteries were fully charged and reading 13.2 thereabouts. I unplugged the BatterMinder and then plugged in the Solar/Morning Star. The battery monitor inside the trailer then read 14.3. Is that right? If the batteries were fully charged or on absorption, shouldn’t they be around 13.2 as per the BatteryMINDer?

Well the SunSaver has a float charge of 13.7 not 13.2 and Bulk Charge of 14.1 or 14.4 depending on the selected battery type. Depending on the firmware, it could default to bulk mode for a bit when first turned on, I can't tell you about that. It's also possible it is confused or faulty.

From the manual, page 33:
"Depending on battery history, the battery remains in the
absorption stage for 3 or 4 hours before transitioning to the
float stage."

Also, the battery will slowly coast down from Absorption voltage to Float voltage over a period of several hours.

There is also a section on multiple chargers which I didn't read.
