Wiring gone bad???

Well today I was able to work on my A/S for several hours for the first time since I got it. Oh what a feeling, I learned alot of need to know stuff as well such as my propane tanks (that the PO was going to take to the dump because they didn'y have the new valves) are aluminum and just waiting to be upgraded and shined, big 40 lbers too. I also got to replace a rear brake light and check to see if it works. Therein lies my issue, when I turn on my lights both sides light up. When I turn the right blinker on it blinks the left blinker doesn't. when I step on the brakes the curb side light goes out and the street side just stays lit. I'm thinking maybe its because my 7 prong recepticle is a 2001 and my pigtail is a 1971, does this sound like it might be my problem??? I put all new fuses in the univolt so that should be ok.

we had all those problems and more, finally ended up going through with a 12v test probe (after finding the ground mind you) and identifying each color's function then making adjustments on the plug to fit our truck.

Ditto

Good chance a PO did some creative wiring. Test the wires individually. A schematic and wiring diagram of the 7 pin coach connector would be a big help. Also make sure yur plug on the TV is wired correctly. A common problem would also be rust and corosion in the light sockets, bad bulbs or bad grounds.

Usually a light going out to allow another to light is a bad ground. You will find grounds at all light sockets.

I agree with Terry, sounds like bad grounds. The filaments in unpowered bulbs can act like high resistance grounds in absence the good chassis grounds.

I had a combination of both problems. Bad grounds and the umbilical wasn't wired right. There used to be a diagram on the Airstream, Inc website that showed the proper wire order for the 7 pin on the camper. They have reworked their website and the last time I looked, it wasn't there. Maybe somebody here has a .pdf copy they can send you.

Now that I think about, there are several threads here that discuss proper wire order. Keep searching , maybe there's a thread that covers your year camper.

Thats where I will start my search. Thanks for the link. I do know that the PO was very good at "creative repairs", this is going to be like a treasure hunt I think. Thanks everyone for the input and happy new year.
