I'm relatively handy and don't mind, and in fact enjoy, the DIY aspect and learning. For instance, I had an issue with the license plate bracket/mount. I concocted a solution but didn't know if removing a screw would leave me 'screwed' in that the retaining nut fell to the bottom inside. I called AS and they very were helpful, so I was comfortable removing the screws. In the OP's case, sure, if they send a replacement assembly at no cost to 'me', try that. If it's the nitty-gritty wiring somewhere...I'll pass.
