Tail light ID help Please

I purchased a set of taillights that I was told where the correct fit for my 1973 Argosy and they do not fit. They are suppose to be from an early 70s Airstream. Can any one tell me what they came on originally? I would like to sell them find some thing else that will work.

If you wanted to use those, you'd probably have to modify the skin of the Argosy. Most Argosy trailers (at least through '76, the limit of my hands-on experience) came with a plastic shell that spanned the width of the trailer and held the taillights. As you can see from the photo below of my latest project, they don't always fare too well over time. I have a pair of '75 Excella taillights on the donor Argosy (which I assume were there because the original plastic thing was beyond repair) and I'm considering using them instead of trying to repair the plastic thing, but I think it'll involve cutting the skin some, and all that will have to come off when the curved panel gets replaced so I get to put that off for a while.

It appears that the tail light unit that you have was first used starting sometime in 1969 on Airstreams and used on many but not all Airstreams through 1973. It appears that Airstream switched to square/rectangular lens tail lights sometime in 1974.

Good luck with your investigation!

Kevin

P.S.: While I know photos can be misleading, it looks like the tail light assemblies on the 69-73 Airstreams were positioned closer to the rear panel vertical seam than are the OEM tail lights on the Argosy . . . the Argosy rear window may be smaller than those on the 69-73 Airstreams.

My Trailer had the plastic housing like the picture above and it was destroyed so I removed it. I think I could use the tail lights I have but I would have to cut the skin and move them out a few inches and then patch the open area left behind. I bought a set of round LED light that will fit into the original openings and am going to use those. Thanks for all the replies.

Those are the same assemblies that are on my '72 Trade Wind. I've taken mine off and will rehab them with LED lights
