Stair light repair
My Airstream is a 2012 with the LED light above the door, generally pointing down. When we bought the trailer, it worked, then it became intermittent. I could not remove the plastic lens so I bought a replacement LED and removed the entire aluminum cover. I replaced the LED and recaulked the cover.
That worked for a while then it became intermittent and I gave up...for some time.
This past week I figured out how to remove the plastic lens without breaking it. One must slip a knife blade under the lower side and push up, after removing the two screws. I could wiggle the bracket and get it to work so my diagnosis was a bad ground. It appeared that the rivet attaching the LED holder was really never clamped hard enough to make good contact with the case. So, I used a small file to clean up both surfaces, squeezed in some dielectric grease, and used a C-clamp to really squash the rivet and bracket to a tight clamp.
Presto! Now it works properly. A simple rivet that was not properly installed. If it fails again, I will use a bolt and nut.
