Porchlight Option - - 1950s? - 1960s?

I have known my Airstream since friends of the family towed it home in 1964. It has one option that I haven't seen on any other Airstreams in my travels. I do know that there must be some other Airstreams out there with the option as I was able to purchase an exact replacement globe in a box with an Airstream part number.

The porchlight has a standard grounded plug in its housing that plugs into ano outlet on the side of the trailer and a collar screws down over the outlet to lock the light into position. The light is controlled by a factory light switch mounted above the kitchen sink - - and this switch is mentioned in the owner's manual but not the porchlight that it also controls.

This is the porch light

Has anyone else encountered a 1950s or 1960s Airstream with this option. I know it dates to the trailer and based upon its installation an nearly certain that it was factory installed. I know that it was on the trailer the first time I saw it in 1964 when it was only a few weeks old. We had a very similar fixture on our 1969 Sunway Camper.

Yep...

Got one of those too, same plug and collar config. but a different design. Also, our '62 Overlander does not have the switch inside, instead there is a pull chain for the on-off function.

We have a switch over the sink that goes to a similar outlet outside...but no light fixture. I always wondered why the outlet was switched...now I know.
