Little cover outside of door?

What is the little cover used for that is just outside the door of our 1954 22' Flying Cloud? Whatever needed it on the inside is now missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Can you post a picture of this vent? Pictures always help.

Would I do this under the photos area or can I post directly to this thread?

Snap a picture and post it with your reply. I'm interested to see what it looks like.

BTW, did you buy the flying cloud from Jesse in Spokane? He's occasionally on the forum as well, and I know he sold one this summer.

I'm guessing maybe the "porch light"? It kinda looks like a vent.

That's it!

How is the electrical set-up? What size bulb and what does your switch inside look like?

It looks like a dual filament Christmas tree bulb - 12V. No markings.

You're a little late with the switch, I threw it away about 4 hrs ago. It was a simple hardware store toggle switch.

That's a cool porch light. Much better idea than the ones with the lens that just shine in your eyes.

Of course I got no porch light at all

You could install a DPDT switch, wired to the two filaments, and have a low-off-high light. I think that's what I'll do.

Did it look like this

Would the switch have fit this hole?

Of course, I don't have one either. I would like one though and have been admiring them on others' trailers. All of these that I've inquired about have been 110 volt. I thought it strange that it wasn't 12 volt as it wouldn't work while boondocking.

Yeah, it would fit.

Here's picture of a couple you could get. The one on the right is similar to the one i took out. The one on the left is a light switch that came out of my boat, I like it because it's a push-pull switch, but it may be too deep to use in the airstream.

Toastercoaster, that's a nice trailer you have there.

Maybe that porch light was an Ohio thing. I have one in the same spot as Mark's that had the same bulb as Mark's. It worked for my first two camping trips, then the bulb exploded off the base when I switched it on. But I'm confused about the voltage also. It worked on 110, but the bulb looks like a 12V. And 12V makes more sense. The bulb socket is so rusted I need to replace it, but haven't looked into it yet.

You can buy one at an auto parts store just make sure it has the same number of wires. I replaced the one in the overhead porch light on our 71. Think the socket was like $3.00.
