Welcome to the forum!

You may find a better audience in the "1970-79 Tradewind" sub-forum:

https://www.airforums.com/forums/f125/

There are quite a few renovation threads there, so those posters would hopefully be familiar with the wiring and switches.

Good luck,

How can you be certain that the third switch is for an "exterior light" if you can't get it to illuminate a bulb anywhere? Maybe it is for an interior light?

Can you account for all interior lights and their switches? Do you have an owner's manual? If not one can probably be located online IMO.

I had a exterior light tucked away under trailer in the well for the exterior steps. It was a amber exterior running light. Take a look it probably has a burner out bulb.

I want to agree with Hes on the step light possibility. I also have 3 switches on my Ambassador, 2 right beside the door and one on the other side of the window beside the door. First switch is for the over door porch light, the 3rd one on the other side of the window is for the scare light. The 2nd switch is for the light over the galley sink. Took me about an hour or two to figure out what that switch did until I realized the galley was on as I was walking to the back to see if it turned something in the back on.
