LED tail lights

I have an '06 19' Bambi with LED tail lights.

I'm losing LED segments within each lamp (4 total-2 lamps on each side) pretty regularly these days.

How long before I can expect a total loss?

And what's the best replacement item for them?

We also have a few "holes" in our tail light LED arrays... sometimes they all come on...sometimes, not... So I'll be interested to see what folks reply...

Sounds like quality, or lack thereof, is the issue.

Hi, my tail lights started to fail many years ago. I found a place on line [E-Bay] that sold similar lights for about $20.00 each. [I'm sure much less than Airstream wants for their lights] They have already out lasted the factory lights by a few years. I don't know if your factory lights will fail totally, but they look bad after about 10% of the LED's burn out. [6 out of 60]

I have had the same problem with the tail lights on my 2008 Classic... The solution that I used was to buy 5 (one spare) from the Airstream store in JC...They are not difficult to replace and I believe that I was only able to line up 2 of the 4 screw holes as the centers are different eventhough the light ass'y are the same --- I did not replace the housing ass'y as AS has that very well sealed and it is not worth the trouble --- hope this helps...

I had similar problems with my '06 tailights as the result of water intrusion. I purchased new lights from the dealership and before re-installing them sealed all the edge seams and where the wire enters the plastic housing with sealant (this is on the light unit itself, not the aluminum housing they fit into). They have been water tight and fully functional since.

Update:

Well I've now replaced all 4 lamps with new OE lamps. About $65 per. They are definitely brighter than the old ones.

I think I learned something on my last two outings with the trailer however that might be worth sharing here......I always check the lights in the mornings or every time I hook up. But I'm thinking that I oughta also check them in the evening or after a trip. Here's why: When I hooked up to go to the A/S dealer for the replacements I checked and I had only 3 segments total in all 4 lamps that were out. Right here, I thought "Oh crap", I'm about to waste my time and money replacing these lamps......but when I got to the dealer (60 miles), I looked again and they looked similar to what I'd seem upon returning from my previous trip with 9 or 10 segments out. So........lesson here? I think that the absence of the segments is an intermittent thing. I may start the day with good lights and end up in the evening with feeble tail lights.

And...did I mention? The new units are brighter!

(my '06 Bambi has right at 50K miles on it)

I had a number of LEDs replaced under warranty.

They are brighter and illuminate faster than traditional incandescent bulbs but I'm not convinced that they'll last any longer.
