Keep blowing trailer light fuse on TV

Could not figure out why my running lights wouldn't work, have replaced the tv fuse 2 times now since reading through the threads, every time I plug the AS in, it blows my TV fuse ... where do I begin to look for the problem. I have a 2008 RAM 1500 TV w/tow package & brake controller etc, and a 1999 25' Safari. Could it still be a blown lightbulb on the AS? Bad ground? Confused ... Have hauled my boat without blowing fuses, so don't think it's a TV problem ... Jim

From your description it sounds like a running/taillight short to ground in the AS. I wouldn't even check the TV as a short to ground in the trailer harness in the TV would blow the fuse whether the AS was hooked up or not.
I'm afraid it's a hunt and find issue could be anywhere in the power side of the running/tail light circuit. Start with the easy check....that being the umbilical. after that, about the only thing you can do is get a bunch of fuses, and start accessing the harness at each running light and wiggling the wires. when/if you can stop the fuses blowing at a particular location, the likely short is in that area.
Even at that you may have difficulty narrowing it down to a section of the harness. And if you do, it'll be surgery to get to it.
Hopefully, if all the grommets were installed, you'll find a sharp edge at a light socket and that'll be that.

Since the fuse in the TV blows when you plug in the TT, and assuming the TV connector is wired correctly as your boat trailer doesn't blow the fuse, the problem is in the Airstream. Did you change something in the trailer that might have pinched a wire? The marker lights share the tail light circuit. Most bulbs blow "open". I would look for obvious signs of damage at a lights or in the trailer plug or umbilical. You are looking for a "short" between the tail light circuit and ground, or a load that exceeds the capacity of the fuse.

That was another area I was going to take a look at was all the running lights themselves.Since we just purchased the TT from a very nice retired couple I might give them a call and see if the worked for them. Thanks.

That's true, you could have the sockets themselves corroded and full of water. Also, it is possible to have the wrong bulb(s) in the running lights which could have the wrong base. I'm at a loss for the bulb numbers right now, but IIRC there are two bulbs which will fit the socket, but have different contacts at their base.

You can disconnect the TV from the trailer. Then use a battery charger to check out the trailer lighting. No fuses involved.

Success, found a bare wire behind the tail light, wrapped that in some electrical tape, pretty sure that was it, although took every lightbulb out and gave all the connections a scrub with steel wool as well. Good opportunity to clean all the lense covers. Thank you all for the pointers - I am grateful for the advise, and feel safer heading down the road next weekend knowing all the lights work. Jim
