Interior Low Profile all in one AC outlet

I am looking for the low profile box-less AC outlet that Airstream used on the early 80's and probably the 70's trailers. The PO for some dumb reason removed the outlet on the interior of the entertainment center and just wire nutted the wires together with some electrical tape and stuck it back in the wall and put a cover plate over the hole. I want the outlet back but I have not been able to find something that will work at Lowe's without making the hole in the wall bigger.

I have used old work flanged shallow boxes that I got at Home Depot in my Excella. They will fit even in the exterior walls where space is at a premium and allow use of standard home outlets instead of those strange RV outlet/cover combos.

You will have to make the hole slightly bigger. That is, you will have to make it a neat rectangular opening instead of the jagged, oblong hole that they made at the factory since the cover would hide their work.

It's not a big deal to do, and you are done with looking for those weird outlets, at least there.

I finally remembered where I had seen those box-less outlets. Tweetys.com has them.

I still prefer the shallow boxes and the switch to "normal" outlets, but this way you have choices.

You can find the RV/Mobile home stile boxless outlets at an RV parts place which has a full line of things. They are fairly common.

However, they often used push in wire piercing connections and your wires may not be long enough now that the PO has done modifications. If so, the shallow old work boxes mentioned by vswingfield are a good alternative.

I ended up buying the box like you show in your link. The hole is hard to get to so I was trying to avoid having to hack at that sheet metal.

I think I am going to relocate the one at the top to the bottom and then put in one of the low profile blue boxes at the top of the entertainment center. I will be able to get to this one much easier to make the hole bigger.

I plan on putting a 6 tap outlet on each plug so I can plug in lots of small amperage draw items in. I also need to get a 12V power strip. I am gradually getting rid of the PO's rats nest of stuff under the entertainment center. I wish I could cover up the lower section but the PO was also thoughfull enough to cut the tambor door out.
