Interior Lights

I have an 06 Safari and having problems with the interior lighting. The switches in the light fixture are going bad. The ones that have stopped working are all controlled by the rocker switch on the wall. I can press the switch on the light and it is as if the clicking mechanism has broken. I am thinking it will be asier to replace the light than to try to replace the switch inside the light fixture itself, or would removing the switch and straight wiring the light to work only with the rocker switch be the best move? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Hello benehana -- Welcome to the Forums! A guess is that you are talking about the plastic case lights -- under the rear cupboard over the dinette and another above the sink. Is that right? I haven't experienced this yet. I did have one of the corner swivel spots that had a short and was completely replaced under warranty.

Thats correct. The lights that have sopped are one in the bathroom and the one on the bedroom. The light under the cupboards and in the shower are still working fine.

Hello,

We have experienced similar problems with the older style lighting Airstream used on the Safari line trailers pre 2008. If the light has been left on for a long period of time, the heat makes the switching mechanism very brittle and causes the lens to warp.

Thanks Patrick. Is there a suitable replacement for these lights?

Yes, there is a suitable replacement for the older light fixtures. Airstream now uses a fixture that has heavy-duty housing and hard- plastic lens. I am not sure what brand they are, but they are available from Airstream or through an Airstream dealerships parts department.
