electrical fused

I am new wiring our AS and have a simple ( to some at least) question. I am bringing the trailer umbilical cord into the cabin. There it is connected to the various running lights at a junction box. I also will be installing a converter charger unit ( PD 4045) which will fuse each light run. Does it make any sense to also fuse the lines at the distribution (junction box)point where the lines come in to the cabin ( at the umbilical cord.)?

On Amazon and I'm sure elsewhere you can get a trailer plug junction that does a nice connection there. It wouldn't hurt to fuse the 12 volt charge but since your tow vehicle likely fuses each part of the trailer plug supply it could be a nightmare later with circuits double fused figuring out where the issue is.

In my '66 Safari, I had an issue with the original factory wiring for the front section of the marker lights. The 18 gauge wire was too small for the five incandescent lamps (2 bulbs each) that had been installed. The only fuse in the circuit was a 50 amp back at the truck. Fortunately there was nothing flammable inside the front end cap, because the wire burned to a crisp.

I re-wired with 14 gauge, installed LED marker lights, and you bet I put a fuse in that circuit at the trailer. The fuse should be sized to protect the wire, no matter where it is located.
