Connecting marker lights

Two wires come out of trailer- do I need to solder them to new marker light? One to each light?

Lets clear one thing up first. You say 2 wires. Marker lights are commonly 1 wire and grounded directly to the trailer skin.

If you are using LED lights and there are in fact 2 wires the lights are polarity sensitive.

How about a picture before we go much further.

looks like they may have daisy chained the marker lights. if when you removed the old light all 3 wires were connected together that is the case.

To test it out. Turn the parking lights on. Are any of the marker lights to the rear of this light lit? If not I think they are daisy chained. if you have a 5 amp fuse use it to touch the 2 wires coming out of the trailer together. While this is in place do the marker lights to the rear of this light come on. If so discard the fuse and connect all 3 wires together and you should be done.

My '98 has two wires coming out of the grommet also. My replacement fixture came with two wires. Is that your new fixture (post #3)? Maybe they were expecting you to use the metal plate/screw to complete the curcuit. Can't tell from the photo. You could use your voltmeter to check for continuity.

This is the new one. The old one had these two wires soldered to the metal connectors by the bulbs

I can't see the left side, but it looks like the new one has only one wire? If so, as noted before, use a voltmeter to test for continuity from that wire to another location on the fixture.

What was the resolution regarding the 2 wires versus the single wire on the replacement light? Also, do you still own the 98 excella?
