Clearance (or Marker) light colors
I'm about to order replacements for all ten marker lights on my 1971 Ambassador. I'm going with all LEDs. Which ones are supposed to be red and which ones are supposed to be amber? I can't tell by looking at my trailer because most of mine are broken
TIA

Red in the back, including the back corners, amber on the sides and front.

I bought the cheap PartsAM double bullseye LED marker lights to replace mine on a 1972 Sovereign, it hasn't moved yet, but I see that some of the leds in some of them have failed already.
I'm internally debating on buying Optronics MCL49RB and and MCL49AB lights to replace them.
the problems I see is the housings are just a tiny bit smaller, which might look a bit odd for the ones in the corner castings, and the wires come out dead center with no clearance to move them off to the side. The screws would also be visible, but that doesn't really bother me.

It's done. I mean mostly. It works anyway.

Speaking of clearance lights, they don't use gaskets? Use caulking/adhesive on back of light body prior to mounting?bj

Vintage Trailer Supply has '70s-style marker lights that are a direct replacement. Single wire (+ 12 V), Ground is via the aluminum and mounting screw. The amber lights have amber LEDs and lens, red lights, same deal-red LEDs and lens. Don't mix them up, that looks just weird. The electronics are all sealed up, so you just have to worry about sealing the screw holes and where the red wire comes out of the roof or side. I used Parbond (also from VTS). I mounted the lamps with the drain holes pointed down (unlike many of the lights I took off!). Installation is complete, but I plan to put a bead of Parbond across the tops of each lamp, to help shed water away from those holes.
I thought about getting cheap LED marker lights off the internet. Some of the posts I read went that route. But most required some modifications to make everything fit. Most of the LEDs marker lights are TWO-wire, that means you have to figure a way to connect the ground. In the end, I decided to go with the more expensive lights from VTS. I didn't want to spend a half-hour–hour modifying each lamp—there's 12 of them for crying out loud. The only modifications I needed to do was the two marker lights on the front corners. They are mounted on a cast-aluminum base. I had to shave a bit of plastic off the top and bottom of the lamp fixture to get it to fit down in the base. I just used some sandpaper to make it fit.

Hey DuckDave, what is the advantage of LED? I'm replacing mine now, but not sure I understand the benefit over incandescent. Thank you!

There are several: LEDs are brighter. Mine are much brighter the the 42 year old incandescents. Supposedly, they have a very long lifespan—we’ll see. LEDs draw about 1/10 the amps compared to bulbs. This might be more important for interior lighting that you want to use while boondocking. I don’t normally have my running light on while parked, but I’ve noticed it’s becoming trendy to do so, in which case I’d be saving a lot of amps with my LEDs. I’m thinking about switching out my tail/turn signal/brake/backup light to LED. I recently found a good source for RV LED stuff: LED4RV.com. The owner hangs out on the forums, and sometimes posts.
