clearance lights not sealed?

The clearance lights on our "52 Cruiser have an aluminum plate with teardrop lenses. There is no sealant or gasket between the lens and the plate; does anyone know if this is how they were designed?

If it's not supposed to be this way, what can I do to get a good seal?

Leaks resulting?

I am chasing down a few leaks in my trailer. The current suspect is the clearance lights (I've eliminated nearly everything else). The water leak appears in the trailer along an interior wall seam just forward of the streetside windows, along the hinges of the windows, and along the top edge of the rear (bath) window.

For a long time I thought the windows themselves were leaking along the hinges (and perhaps they are). But I think it's more likely the water is coming in from above, and just appearing when it hits the windows.

So, is there a technique or procedure for absolutely positively sealing clearance lights?

I noticed that there was not sealant on the marker lights as well.

I removed them all and intened to replace them with my new led marker lights.

I will be putting a small bead of vulkem across the top of each screw hole and where the wire comes thorugh the body of the trailer. All this will be underneath the marker light so no sealant will be seen when I am finished.
