Can you tell me what this is and how to replace it?

Hi there!

Been reading a bit around the forum for a while and this is my first post. Thanks in advance for all the shared knowledge and experience.

My wife and I are currently updating our first Airstream. It is a 1975, 29' LandYacht with rear bath.

Here's my issue:
While attempting to replace a hallway ceiling vent light, I came across this wire coming out of the ceiling and feeding that ceiling vent light and this broken wire resistor(?). Pic below.

The black round item that I think is a resistor has not aged well. It is corroded, broken, and beyond repair. Can anyone tell me exactly what this is how to source this for replacement?

Thanks again in advance,
Tim

It doesn't look like a resistor, looks more like a splitter of some sort. Measuring the voltage on each side of it will confirm if it's a resistor or not. Assuming the purple wire is coming from the ceiling, what kind of connection(s) is it for the black thing to the next wire(s)?

You say it goes to the ceiling light vent. Does that mean it's power for a light and maybe a fan??? Maybe it's just a splitter for the light and fan, or maybe an automatic closer for the vent, in case of rain. Looks to me like a connection is rusted off. Do you need a second connection for something?

Inline fuse holder? Connector for a fan in the vent?

Looks like a fuse holder. Was there a fuse in it? A 1" or so long Glass tube with metal caps on the end?

You will need to research the amperage of the fuse to use in it.

They are readily available at auto parts stores as well as the fuses.

Good luck
