Affordable LED strip DIY?

Spring greetings forum folks~ I feel some pride having just converted the two florescent bulbs in the ballast over the sink in my 1981 Execella with two LED 12 inch strips (I know that's no biggy for many here . Now I want to do the rest of the 12 inch ballasts, but at $20 per strip and two strips per ballast that is very costly.

Is it possible to buy a roll of the 12V flexible LED strip lights with adhesive backing and cut them into 12 inch lengths and somehow attach the base with the positive and negative wire (don't know what to call this) myself?

Here's the part I just successfully installed from Out of Doors Mart (who I really like) plus a great short DIY video: LED Warm White strip for repairing 12in light T250mmWW [15751W-05] - $19.95 : Out-of-Doors Mart!, More Airstream Parts on-line than anyone!

And here's a roll of the flexible warm light strips I am curious if I can create my own 12 inch strips to install: http://www.amazon.com/Lampux-Flexibl...d+strip+lights

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, to your question. YouTube has dozens of videos on how to do it yourself.

LED Strips

Yes, contact Dan at Contact Us : LEDs 4, Recreational Vehicles

He might be able to help out. Here is one example of a longer strip....

You absolutely MUST do a search for LED lighting on Ebay. LED strips that cost $60-85 each at Best Buy are $16-20 in Ebay. There are tons of sellers plus the ac adapters and controllers are way cheap too.

You can buy 5m rolls of self-adhesive 300 or 600 l.e.d. strips in just about any color for around $20.00. They're 12 volt and simple and ready to use if you can do simple soldering.

Converted my 47 yr old fluorescent fixture to 12v LED using 2 12" strips from a motorcycle running light kit I bought at Auto Zone for about $12.

Leds are cheap, but I would look on amazon rather than deal with ebay sellers. 3 meter rolls are available for around 10-12 bucks and lots are free shipping with prime. You can cut them about every 4 inches where they are designed to be cut. All are 12v so you dont need any ac adapters. They come with a self stick backing so fairly easy to put where you want them. Generally you need to solder small wires to the ends but with a bit of practice its not too hard.

I bought this;
Hi! I found this on eBay and thought you might like it! Check it out now: 5M 500CM RGB 5050 300LED SMD Ultra Bright Flexible Strip Lights IP6 DC 12V | eBay

You then clean off the adhesive and plastic then you solder wires. Easy..

Now, to control brightness, you get an LED driver/dimmer. Wirks great!!!!
