'86 Excella Taillight replacement problem
i recently purchased new taillight bezels for my 1986 32 ft excella .
when i tried to order them , i got this response :
"I checked with Airstream and was advised the original bezel are NLA but they have a replacement bezel that retails for $66.11. ea."
i did order them, and left them unused for few months,
Yesterday , i started to install them, and i discovered that they are much larger then the older versions.
the new model doesn't fit in between the lines .
does anyone know a source for the proper size ?
( preferably the original color as well )
thank you for responding !

i guess i will try to reinstall the old damaged bezels for now.
i don;t want to modify the trailer , since i still hope to find better fitting versions.
would a salvage yard sell them ? ( where should i look ?)
or is ebay my best chance ?
thanks,
Axel

Give Inland Andy an email. He may have some to fit your trailer, or know where to get them. Other sources would be Ebay, Airstream dealers that have been around a while (New Old Stock), or salvage yards for used ones.

Unfortunately, what you received is all that Airstream has.
Looking for a salvaged unit might be a choice, for you.
I have no idea where you might find them.

Axel,
They have been very accomodating with me. I usually speak with a gentleman by the name of Dan.

What is the damage to the originals? Is the web nissing between each lens or is one of them bent?
If it just the web and mounting holes I would consider repairing them by installing a fiberglass matting from behind and using that for the screw mounting. As long as the exposed rim is good you can save them.

Hi HowieE,
The mounting screws have been tightened to much in most corners, so most of the holes are twice the size of the screw and two of the in-between pieces are missing, they fell out while taking off the old lenses , before i noticed the difference in size.
They looked like they were ready for replacement, and it seemed like an easy cosmetic repair ( before i started , that was)

Wow, am I glad I read this post! I am in the midst of redoing the outside of my '86 Sovereign & just assumed I'd be replacing the taillight bezels. I've had such good luck with replacement parts through Airstream on this model, that I figured these would be there too! I guess I'll baby the ones I have & put them away for safekeeping until I'm done with my project! Thanks!

As long as the basic frame is straight repair them. If you are not familiar with working with fiberglass try and find someone that repairs boats or builds kayaks. They will be able to show you how to repair your frames.
If you do repair them I would suggest glassing in small pices of metal behind each of the screw holes as new material to screw into.
You might take a look at what I did while upgrading my tail lights. See post 40, 49, and 51 on this thread.
