2019 License Plate Light Fails - Replacement a mystery!

The light over my 2019 FB27 started failing about 6 months ago when half of it went out. I just assumed a bulb had failed. Then it recently went completely dark (all the other exterior light are fine).

I took it apart to find it's an LED set up. Worse yet it's not only a sealed unit but the two wires lead back into my rear hatchback...and I can't figure out how to access them. The good news is that those wires have a long lead to them, but the grommet they have to fit back through would make it tough to get any sort of connection through.

Suggestions?

Solder the wires and seal them with shrink wrap instead of using bulky connectors. Space your new connections so they enter the grommet one at a time.

I carefully pulled out the grommet and inserted the connectors through the hole one at a time, then re-inserted the grommet. I used the crimp connectors that are made like shrink tubing with adhesive inside. After heating and shrinking the red 22-16 AWG connectors shrink down so they are pretty thin.
