12V lights without battery?
I have a 68 model Ambassador and have a basic question. Will the 12v lights operate without a battery installed, but plugged into a 120v source? What # bulb would be the correct size and type. Thanks, Bill

If it has the original Univolt installed and it is operating, the lights should work without the battery. Be sure the battery cables are not touching each other, or any metal parts of the trailer.

Thanks. It does have the Univolt, but don't know if any of the bulbs are any good. Do you happen to know which bulb would work? The trailer is not where I am, but might try taking some bulbs when I go Wed.

Hello Headhog. On some univolt converters the battery was required to help regulate the voltage and kep the voltage from going to high. You may want to check the voltage at a light, with the battery disconnected, to make sure that it's not much over 13-14vdc. In the manual to my 1988 excella it cautions you not to run the radio and other 12 vdc items with the battery remover for fear of damage to the equipment, not the univolt as they are almost bulletproof.
Good luck nm1oqrz

1156 bulbs will fit in the original interior fixtures, I believe.

Thanks for everyone's help. Trailer hasn't been used in a while and I was told that the 12v lights didn't work. This will give me a starting point for trying to figure it out. Will be using a Honda 2000 for some 110 so I can at least have some coffee! Bill

Although there is not a battery installed, the Univolt doesn't seem to be putting out 12v current. Now, it doesn't seem to be a bulb issue. Thanks as always for your help. Bill
