Water seeping from base of toilet

We have a 2025 Trade Wind. We're on our first trip of the season and I noticed water seeping out from the base of the toilet:

Any ideas what could cause this?

Not sure if it's related, but we had freeze damage in the water heater over the winter. I described it in this thread. The dealer fixed it and also did a complete annual inspection. I just picked the trailer up yesterday and they said everything was in working order.

Based on your previous freeze issue, I would guess that the water valve in the unit has cracked. If the leak continues with no water in the bowl, it is the water valve. You will need to pull the toilet to see/fix the problem. It can be messy...

Thanks. I just realized something else. The toilet is gradually filling with water, as if I have half-pressed the pedal to add water to it. But I haven't half-pressed the pedal. What would that suggest?

That might be nother indication that the water valve is damaged.

Yeah, I called the dealer and described the issue. They said it sounds like it's both the water supply line and valve that are damaged. Thanks.

Based on your symptoms it does sound like the flush valve. However, if you replace the valve and the symptoms continue then you may have to replace the toilet.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. A fellow Airstreamer I met in a caravan advised me the toilet has 2 bowls with an inner seal to join the 2 of them. There is no way to repair/ replace that inner seal.

When I took my old toilet out and turned it upside down I could see stains from water running between the upper and lower bowl. Replaced the toilet and problem solved. A lot of people told me I was wrong but that was the issue and the stains supported it.

If you replace the flush valve it’s easier to remove the toilet to replace it. While the toilet is out, you might as well look to see if there are stains between the upper and lower bowl.

I think the toilet is probably defective or damaged and needs replacing. If the flush valve is not shutting off completely the bowl will fill but the water should stay in the bowl. If the flush valve is leaking externally you should be able to feel and see that. So check the valve carefully for external leaks and if you do not find one change the toilet and the valve. Not a difficult job and probably easier than replacing just the valve.

if you don't remove the water BEHIND the vale during the freeze period, they crack

Yes I have had similar issues with the toilet water valve, and the only sure way to avoid that is to put RV antifreeze into the system. That works every time.

I had a mobile RV repair guy come to our campsite. He was able to do a full turn on the fitting that connects the water supply line to the toilet, so it seems that was the main issue. Water was leaking from there and pooling around the base of the toilet, which made it seem like it was coming up from the base.

He also did replace the water valve. He couldn't see any cracks but said there was some gunk and thought we might as well replace it to be safe, since it's only ~$30.

Since then (yesterday afternoon), the floor has been completely dry and the toilet bowl is not filling with water. Problem solved! Thanks, everyone.

Leaking toilet

Same thing happen to us. The toilet is in two parts. Took the toilet out and tightened the screws holding the two parts of the toilet together. No more leaks.

Really sounds like the valve as others have said. Easy replacement. Carry a spare with you. They’re small and cheap and they start leaking at the oddest times.

While we haven’t experienced a freeze, we’ve had a significant issue with the Dometic toilet in our 2025 Globetrotter 27FB. We’ve encountered problems with the toilet not holding water and with water continuously running after a flush. It’s puzzling to have simultaneous issues with the incoming and outgoing water on a brand new toilet, but here we are nonetheless. Fortunately, our storage facility has an RV repair company that shares space with them, so they inspected the running water problem. They replaced the valve, but the issue persisted. They replaced the vacuum breaker, but the problem continued. I replaced the seal to try and retain water in the bowl, and it worked for a while, but the problem persisted. You’re probably sensing a recurring theme here! The RV tech opened a ticket with Dometic, who now advises replacing the entire toilet. I agree with this recommendation! Fortunately, we already had an appointment scheduled for next week at Jackson Center, so we’ll work to get the entire toilet replaced under warranty during that visit. I wish you the best of luck with your issue!
