Toilet question

Get ready for the dumbest question ever... I have a 72 Overlander with a thetford aqua magic gh toilet, but the seat is broken. The po bought a new seat from a big box store which does not fit. Been shopping and finding that rv stores are very proud of those seats!

They want $59.00 and up for them. Anyone know where I can get one cheaper? Thanks folks!

I recently replaced the toilet in our 76 and recycled the old one at our local recycle center. Saving the seat didn't cross my mind.

$59.00 will go along way towards a whole new toilet. On a positve note Thetford has a rebate program in place until the end of August 2012 should you decide to go the replacement route.

The seat on mine broke a few years ago, it was 35 years old. I chose to order a new seat from Thetford and the cost was around $60 as you stated. Since the unit was fully functional except for the cracked seat, it was worth it to me to replace the seat only (5 minute job).

Welcome to the world of Airstream and RV's in general. Most items in a RV that have a comparable item in your house will cost a lot more to repair or replace in the RV. Smaller market, lower volume, and in some cases being built to withstand the rigors of being in a RV all account for the higher price tag.

Several years ago, the toilet in my dad's old RV died. I found him one on e-bay for pretty cheap. (It was NIB, an extra sitting around for too long in the seller's warehouse.) Might be worth a look.

I did what Richard did, and bought a new seat/lid for ours (Aqua Magic IV). Cleaned it up nicely, and was literally click off old one, click on new one.

I don't consider $180 to $200 "close" to the cost of the lid even with the rebate, and wasn't looking forward to taking off the old one to replace it, despite already having done it once.

Click click was much more fun.

I did find a sale on seats (a seat sale? LOL!), but I don't see your model listed unfortunately.

You guys are the best! I'm probably gonna go (no pun intended) for the seat.
