toilet of the endless flow

where is toilet water adjustments? I am assuming it must be in the foot pedal, that appears to be functional. Please elaborate

What adjustment? I have two pedals, one opens the trap door and water flows in. The other flows water in without opening the door. Press and hold as needed.......

the one pedal opens the trap ok, but I am suspecting that the other pedal allowing water to fill the tank as needed is stuck.

Hi, if it's an Aqua Magic, there are two possibilities.

One is that some debris is lodged in the area where the slide retracts and it's keeping the water pedal partially depressed. Pulling up on the flush handle will confirm this (and push whatever's in there further into the channel).

The other possibility is that the "ball valve" in the fresh water inlet is so worn that it causes the toilet to try to fill continuously. They can go bad all by their lonesome if pressure is kept continuously on the system.

Getting to it requires removing the toilet. There's a plug under the seat at top left that lets you reach the flange bolt with a long extension, and the other can be reached in the pedal area. It helps to have something like a plastic soda bottle to wedge in there to hold the pedals out of the way while you work on it.

The ball valve can then, if I remember right, be removed without disassembling the toilet.

And, in my opinion, this is why there should always be a shutf-off valve in the line going to the toilet.

Sounds like this is what happened to us this weekend.
Toilet would not stop running.

I cleaned the groove for shutoof valve, and it appeared to be closing all the way, but water just kept flowing.

Foot pedal were not stuck, spring were still attached.
I cycled pedal repeatadly in an attemp to get any stuck valves to close but no luck.
We got around it by turning off the water pump, but it sure was a PIA.

Did anyone find the problem and cure for this?
Is it the ball valve?

HI terratravelr, It sounds to me like your water fill valve needs to be replaced. If the toilet is still good in other respects, replace the valve. If the toilet is older and not in the best of condition, now would be the time to consider a replacement.

Would this be the cause of continuous water flow?

Since you will probably have to remove the toilet to fix, I also recommend replacing with a new one. There are several really nice porcelin replacements available and they are all an substantial improvement over the old plastic.
