Toilet half ball/flapper/slide/blade (whatever) stuck shut

I have searched and searched the archives but have not seen this problem. The half ball at the bottom of the toilet bowl is stuck in the closed position. The foot pedal has been a bit wonky the past week or so, sometimes the water would not come on. But the half ball always slid back and forth just fine.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

Husband thinks the spring has snapped but when he looked into disassembling the foot pedal, he sees this warning under the cap: "Danger Do Not Remove" What kind of dangerous thing will happen if he takes this off? It seems the only way to access the mechanism.

This is a Dometic 310, there is nothing in the manual about the issue, only if it will not close all the way.

There's a video on YouTube that really helped me, fast forward to about 2 minutes into the video:

I made the mistake (that he talks about in the video) of pushing the cam into the toilet, now it's a big problem that I have to figure out. Sheesh.

Thanks for sending this, my husband got it working working better but he'll be interested to see this.

Good luck with your problem - I know what you mean. Sometimes it is just one thing after another!
