Teak Shower Mats

Hey Gang,

Is this a popular addition to most folk’s AS? I see them prominently advertised on AirGear and Airstream Supply Company. They certainly break up the shower’s white monotony. Anybody using them? Happy you purchased? Would you buy another?

Thanks !

Yes, Yes and only if the first one fails somehow. The only downside is it reduces the head clearance which annoys your 20 yr old 6'6" son. The fit for our 27FB is perfect and I really like not standing in the water at the end of the shower.

I sort of like the look, but IMO, they're wildly overpriced.
Previous boats of mine had teak cockpit grates and they looked better for less money. Personally I like the 'interlocking' strips not the two layer type (like AS sells)

Love the concept, don’t like the price. We bought a bamboo floor mat on Amazon for $20 and modified the shape for a semi-custom fit. Nice looking, and very nice not to be standing on a wet plastic floor.

We have these in both the 23FB and the 19' Bambi. Really like standing on the wood than the fiberglass.

Only issue is the water does not drain very well through the small channels through the supports under the slats. Especially if there is a little soap scum and hair build-up.

I added several clear food grade rubber feet to provide more clearance for drainage between the mat and the floor of the shower.

We had one in our Bambi which has the wet bath and it was a great addition. It had a complicated fit around the toilet and it was really well-made and purposed for a shower. So, you're paying for the fit and in that case, I can see the value.

With our Globetrotter, it's more of an L shape with a rectangle with a smaller rectangle over the drain where no one stands, so not complicated. For $225 vs $100 or so for something in teak in a simple rectangle, I think it comes down to aesthetics and paying $125 for a better-looking custom fit. But then not having the drain covered might actually make maintenance simpler when cleaning out hair (not mine). But yes, any solution is better than standing on fiberglass.

I see they are made in Minnesota, so maybe there's a factory outlet store in Winona (haven't been down there in a while).

We have one in our shower in our 27' GT. We love it and I would buy it again. If you have time and the equipment you could make your own.

I ordered mine the same day that I ordered my 23' International. Mostly for the aesthetics...it looks great...and yeah, not standing in pooling water.

We got ours through AIRGEAR. Better pricing than Airstream Supply.

Why? The headroom is tight enough as it is.

We got ours from Airgear for the 24GT. Not necessary by any means, but I like it in there.

Made my own

My dad had a saying “time I got, money I don’t” so I made my own

Local hardwood store had the teak. Once you have the teak mat it’s a luxury you don’t want to be without! Get one and enjoy.

Yep, we have them in both our trailers - much better than standing on the cold stainless steel pan in our vintage wet-bath or fiberglass in our newer Flying Cloud. I would have loved to build our own Jeff...but still working I have more money than time (for now!)

These were one of the first purchases made. Yes, it does reduce the headroom a bit - but that's why the shower heads are designed to be hand held & removable from the wall.

I got my 1st one for our Safari directly from Teakworks4u before they partnered with Airstream. But that was 10+ years ago and it is a basic rectangle - so we just sent them the dimensions. The 2nd one, for our Flying Cloud we ordered from AirGear because the cost was about 1/3 less than Airstream's. The one we got directly from TeakWorks4u appears to be the same as the one from AirGear...just different labeling + over 10 years of use on our 1st one.

No question, they look great and since I'm always looking for trailer upgrades I might even be able to swallow the $200 price tag. Unfortunately, I already have to crouch a bit in the shower so a reduction in head room of even a couple of inches would not be ideal. The fiberglass pan is easy to clean and I don't find myself standing in pooling water as it drains just fine. I'll probably continue to go with function over form.

Great job!
The bonus of teak is that it sands and routers beautifully.

pricey, but

they are well made, fit is perfect and adds a safety element, the fiberglass does get slick, a nice upgrade worthy of the cost

I've always liked the look of these teak mats, but the price, weight and reduced height kinda skeered me off of ever buying one. Man they look gorgeous though.

Mrs. Rich came home from Homegoods with a simple rubber backed slotted bamboo mat about the right size, so we are giving it a try. It's relatively thin and light weight, made in a checkerboard pattern out of small rectangular bamboo blocks held with a synthetic mesh. Has rubbery bits on the bottom to keep it in place. It's only been in for the one shakedown trip in our new to us 2019 FC 25RBT we bought last week, but I like it so far.
