Question Shower valve not shutting off

We have a 2013 Classic Ltd. 30 with (apparently) a Delta 1404 series valve. Since buying the trailer in 2016, the shower valve has been quirky in terms of position for hot vs cold water and stopping the flow of water after a shower. Now, it will not shut off at all. With more effort than should be required, the handle can be moved to what should be the 'off' position, but the water continues to run full strength no matter what position the handle is in. Please help!

Sounds like an internal seal is torn. Delta makes repair kits and YouTube has some nice videos on how to do the repair. It's easier and cheaper than replacement. If you're not handy a trusted plumber can do the work.

The internal "cartridge" needs to be replaced. Easy to do it yourself, and parts are available from most building supply stores that sell Delta faucets. YouTube has a good video on how to replace it.

Thanks for the replies!
Update: I had to shut off all the water to the trailer in order to stop the shower from spraying full force. Quite disappointing, as I am uncharacteristically paying for a full hookup. (I am in New Mexico, and the wonderful state parks we have been staying in are now shut down to overnight stays due to pandemic!)
The nearest hardware store did have the correct cartridge, and it was not too too difficult to replace, although I didn't really look before removing the old one, and so installed it upside down the first time. Weird--Off was straight up and down, but cold was obtained by turning the handle to the left, and hot to the right. We tried convincing ourselves that that would be acceptable for about ten minutes, then, with a sigh, started all over.
It worked! The faucet is still a little quirky in that it seems to drip for a long time after the water is shut off, but I understand that is a common feature on the Airstreams. Troublesome when boondocking though, as it wastes fresh water. I will put the shower nozzle in a bucket to collect the leaks.
So, as usual, the wise and venerable Airstreamers had the correct answer. Y'all are such a font!

Glad you got things fixed! The shower head is designed to drip and will not shut off completely. Putting the head in a bucket and dumping the water into the sink for use is a wise thing to do when you are boondocking.

I got tired of the water delio, especially since i use the shower for dog food and my toolbag on occasion for rear ballast when otr. Even if the valve works, there is still a lot of water in the hose. I finally dropped by a HW store for a 1/2" npt plug and rubber washer. After each shower i remove the head ( manually blow out the remaining water and set it on it's hook) and screw the pvc plug into fem hose end, and drape it over the shower head.

With the plug i feel safer that the handle won't accidentally get moved, especially in transit.

First thing to check before hitting the road is making sure the pump is shut off. That way there is no chance of flooding the shower, toilet or sinks!! there is an "anti-siphon valve" from the factory at the base of the hose. If still in place that drains the hose, and that is part of the reason that the shower head does not shut off 100%, I have been told. I usually put the shower head in the bottom of the shower while travelling.

I'll check my plumb schematic, but my re recollections is that the only vac breaker/ck valve is on the BW line...oem, long ago replaced. I believe the CW connection also has a back flo / ck valve built into the (shurflo?)part.

When i winterize i disc the hose at the base and push h20 out of the fitting. Not sure how a vac br/ anti siphon would work at the shower hose connection at the base. seems Anti siphon would stop flow back to the cw connection, not flow down the hose, imo.

Brass shut-off valve and new head

Kareylou, you can install a brass shut-off valve on the shower head that works better than the stock head’s “pause” button.

This was recommended by Cass, a full-timer with a 2018 Basecamp. She boondocks most of the time and also recommended a Oxygenics shower head.

Here’s the part of the video in case you want to check it out. She’s able to shower with 1 gallon of water when boondocking. Go to 29:15 if it doesn’t start there: https://youtu.be/UU-FdUTV6z4

Both are in my Amazon shopping list. Good luck!

I'll second the above, quality brass being the operative words. I was otr and bought what lowes had. Same design but plastic. Tossed it the next day and bought the plug. Never returned to the issue, but will now. The plug works great but sometimes i forget to "prep the shower" for my wife. This is an easy peasy solution. Thanks for the reminder!
