Repair/replace toilet on 1970 Safari
The foot pedal on the toilet in our 1970 Safari broke a couple of years ago. The 'temporary' fix was to remove the remains of the pedal and attaching a vise grip wrench to the brass fitting so that we can open and close the valve (i.e., flush the toilet). Problem is that w/o the foot pedal, we have no water going down the toilet, so we just kept a plastic cup nearby and manually rinsed the bowl. Although functional, we’ve been thinking that we should move beyond the temporary fix and maybe see if we can put in a new toilet. I'm looking for any advice as to how to proceed. I understand that new model toilets may not fit our old trailer without some modification. Unfortunately, I do not know what modifications are needed or what model of toilet would be best. I'm figure that we are not the 1st to want to replace a toilet on a 1970 Airstream. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
