Thanks for the numbers. I am definitely going to have Toscano install it next time. I had one on my Safari and I really miss it. A/S needs to make this an option on the Classic.

Thanks, X! We have an outdoor shower on our SOB that I am really going to miss on our AS. I am glad to have the parts numbers and photo-plan to investigate having this installed-guess we'll talk about this when we make an appointment at Bill Thomas to have them check out our Limited. Another feature that my husband wants as much as I want the outdoor shower is the built-in outdoor gas stove also on our SOB. Does anyone know if such a feature is available for AS's? Ours is located within the wall of the trailer with a hatch that lowers, containing the two burner stove with gas line attachment to the propane tanks. Since we like keeping the "mess" of cooking outdoors as much as possible, and having the gas hook up so easily available, we really liked this feature. I haven't seen it on much else, and don't know if a retro-fit is possible on an AS, though I don't know why it couldn't be. Possibly mar the skin? Does anyone know or has anyone tried it? Ideas-pro and con? We know we can have a stand alone gas bottle stove for a table, but the built in was SO handy and we used it all the time on the road! Thanks.

Yea,

I don't know why A/S doesn't offer both an outdoor shower and a outddor propane hookup. I asked Toscano if they ever put in an outlet on the gas line which is pretty accessable at point of entry into unit from A-frame. They have never put one in but it seems possible.

I will definitely put in a outdoor shower.

Viewing your picture, the shower unit looks compatible with the AS skin. Is it all plastic? Grey? Or is any part metal? Riveted on? How difficult to install? Running water lines? Wondering about such details. Thanks.

I was wondering the some of the same things, anyone have this unit installed. Any comments as to its quality it looks like the box is plastic. I have done some research on shower units and found three other brands besides this one. All are plastic, one is paintable.
The plumbing should not be too difficult if it is located near a spot with the hot and cold water runs. It installs just like plumbing water lines to a faucet.
I am starting a re-plumbing with PEX and would like to install one.
I'm thinking of using a paintable one made by
Bristol, model 742007. It takes a cutout of 6"H x 11 1/16"W just looking at pictures it looks better in the box layout. I just don't know and would like to hear from the experts.

The model shown in the pic is an A/S factory unit that comes on the Safari 30', as I recall.

Greetings.

After camping in the Bambi for almost an entire week last week, I came to the realization that not only would outdoor shower/sprayer be a good upgrade, but a necessity as well in the current Bambi configuration.

The sink in the Bambi is just to small to do anything other than wash a few cup and glasses. Counter space is also very limited as well, which is why I called Amana today and ordered the folding stove cover that used to come standard with previous years models. Now you have to pony up about $40.00.

As I was thinking how nice a much wider kitchen sink would be, it got me wondering why there is a vanity sink, cabinet, mirror at all. The vanity sink is even less useful than the kitchen sink.

Imagine if instead of the tiny vanity area, AS just made the kitchen and sink wider and bigger by about 18 inches, making it tremendously more useful.

I don't mind brushing my teeth in the kitchen sink, and it is also that much more plumbing to not have to worry about.

As far as storage for stuff in Med. Cabinets, I could find other places for all my drugs.

I am going to see if AS would do the install on the outdoor thing, maybe the first time I visit them for the AS's first physical.

We are madly in love with our unit, so don't think that we are upset or anything...just a wish list is all.

So, are you going to do the dishes, pots, etc outside with the shower unit, then take them indoors to dry? I would think that would not be as clean if windy and dusty. It would definitely reduce your grey tank useage, which is good. Just some thoughts about an outside shower unit!

Since space is limited inside, my idea was to wash stuff in soapy water in the inside sink, then put all the clean but soapy dishes in another bucket/container, hose them off outside, and finally dry them on the table inside.

It is not hard to make a mess and get water everywhere while trying to clean dishes in the Bambi.

Yes, this would help the gray tank capacity last a bit longer.

Another use for the outdoor thing: if you are dumb enough to wear sandles to the dump station (like I did), you can then hose your feet off a little.

The outside shower is a new standard item on the 2006 25' Safari SE only (not the Bambi). The Fogdall dealership wasn't aware of this yet either. Supposedly Airstream intends to extend the SE option to the 28' Safari at some time in the future.

Forums member inflt has one of these models but is currently on a road trip I believe. I've PM-ed him to look in on this thread when he gets back -- and hopefully comment. I'm aware of a member in California who has just ordered the same trailer -- I'll ask him too.

I also miss the outdoor shower that I used to have in my truck camper.

Of course it's only cold water, and it only works if the campground has water hookups, but it might work for you.

Just a thought -- if you do install an outdoor shower, be sure to add an outdoor water pump switch. Every time I had sandy feet and wanted to use mine, the water pump somehow sensed this and magically got turned off, and the switch was inside by the sink, well out of reach to someone standing in the doorway, trying not to get sand in the camper.

No my 2005 25 Safari SE did not come with a outside shower. Just returned from the first trip.
Here is the report.
The Titian pulled it very well and got between
10.5 & 12 mpg @ 70 mph sometimes 75 but I tried to keep it at 70. It tracked well only the large trucks had an effect on it but wasn't bad. In the mountains we climbed up 4 and 6% grades. Just had to pull it into 3rd and it climbed around 50mpg @ 3000 rpm. Would like to have a hensley hitch but don't really think it needs it.
Maybe If I find a used one in good shape.
All systems in the trailer worked perfect with no problems what so ever. One nite the heater came on at 55 it had never been used before so had some fumes and set off the smoke detector. Little excitement but after awhile everything was fine.
The only negitive thing I can say is we felt the toilet area is too small. My wife on I are only 5'7 and its tight tall folks may have an issue with it.
Anyway its all cleaned up and back in its house waiting for its next trip.

'inflt' Alan -- You think that bathroom is tight! Take a look at a new model with dry bath 23' Safari. Click the bathroom photo on the right. Nope, you don't host many guests inside a trailer this size, but I am asking how one can ever attend to 'business' with that door closed? I have heard of a few folks who angle their stool to make seated position more normal.

I guess there aren't many side position bathrooms with generous headroom due to all models having the same ceiling height and curvature.

C'mon over to the 2006 Safari Special Edition thread and please share any continuing adventures with your new Airstream! I pick mine up in 3 days -- nothing more challenging than the hills of SW Wisconsin for starters...
