Low Pressure with shower faucet

I can get great pressure using the cold water but when I start to turn it to get hotter water the pressure goes down.I thought I had a leak but I ripped the shower wall apart to check everything out and I have no leaks at all.I am wondering if after five years of having this Airstream could the faucet knob have finally givin up.Can I go to home depot and replace it or do I need to go to an RV shop for a new faucet?
Everything in the camper works perfect.I believe it is the mixer behind the knob that is messed up.
Could I use a standard houshold shower faucet knob or would that be to much since the water line opening is bigger than the standard RV type.
Thanks Everyone.

Hey Devo,
Both of my trailers (much older than yours) use replaceable 'inserts'.
The '77 acted really wierd since the PO had replaced the insert 180 degrees out.

The knob came off with a screw, exposing a clip inside that, once popped out, allows the insert cartridge to be removed. A trip to Lowes to match it and it popped right back in.

If none of this makes sense, go to a home improvement center and get them to show ya what's up.

Faucet

I took everything apart. All that is left is the turn knob that sticks out of the main faucet mixer behind the shower.I took the shower head and line off also and turned the water back on and it did the same thing so I suspect that the mixer is finally crapped out.I am going to home depot tomorrow to get some sharkbites and a new faucet to match if possible.if not i will retro fit a household one to the shower. The good part is that I can still use the shower head.the bad part is I will probably have to purchase the whole setup unless I can find a plumbing shop that has the part.

hi devo

while it sure could be the mixer...

and there have been a LOT of issues with them,

be SURE the bypass valve (on the hot water line) hasn't been closed slightly.

this would give LOW pressure and LESS hot water at the shower,

but with seemingly normal function at the kitchen sink, i think.

kitchen sink bits are moen, but...

does your unit have the delta fixture in the shower?

many of the box stores carry delta parts in my hood.

if so here's the assembly/repair guide.

http://www.deltafaucet.com/media/Pro...2RevC_dbcd.pdf

the mixer/handle is covered a few pages INTO the pdf file.

debris can also slow the line, but that a lot less like in a well seasoned trailer.

cheers

Still going

Well I finally got all the things I needed.I went and got that crimper at home depot. You have to use vise grips to clamp the copper rings tight but that is just to much work and was somewhat hard to do.
I decide to get the bigger clamp and spend the $60.00 so I went to lowes to get that.it is so much easier to use.I got a new shower set up and I ended up getting what I had in the camper. It was a moen.Total cost for parts cost me about $130.00 give or take a few.
If I were to have any other type of problems with water lines I will have the crimper to make things easier.I will try and get some pics up to show what I did.

My problem was many tiny balls of 'crud' from interaction of copper tubing, hard water and the zinc anode in the water heater, over the years, I suppose...

This 'crud' was lodged in the hot water inlet tubing going into the Moen faucet...I tried removing the insert on top and blowing compressed air 'backwards' after removing the tubing from the supply tubing (had to cut the copper tubing)...but to no avail - some of the 'crud' was dislodged, but not all of it - just no way to get to it - so I also replaced to faucet to cure the problem and get back the hot water flow!

I guess the only way to prevent this from happening again would be to install some kind of heat-resistant screen 'filter' on the outlet of the water heater...haven't looked into that yet - I figure in another 30 years, I'll be at 'room temperature', not needing hot water anymore, and it will be someone else's problem...
