HELP '78 pipes & sharkbite fittings NOT fitting

We live full time in our 1978 Sovereign International and we hope for a full renovation next year. For now almost everything works swimmingly. Except the kitchen sink. There's always been a little leak right at the counter and faucet meeting point. But the past few weeks I've completely lost hot water from the kitchen faucet. It still comes in hot if I hold the faucet lever up at a very specific angle and pray to just the right plumbing god. So, husband and I think replacing the faucet will remedy this, likely a 40 year old washer has just turned to dust inside the faucet, right? Fast forward to right now: copper pipes cut to allow removal of faucet. Faucet is way rusted on and there's also a super rusty spacer that we can't move, at all. So, we tried to piece the pipes back together with sharkbites and finding them impossible. The pipes are visibly smaller than the sharkbite pieces of the same "size". Ah! Having a pretty challenging time with this and any help Or entertaining advice would be most appreciated! 🔩🔧🚿

Use a fitting that has one end a compression fitting the other end that fits the faucet fitting. ( use compression end on copper pipe)

I know it's been several months but someone else might see this post.

First, did you have any luck with compression fittings? Probably not because those aren't the right size either. Airstream used some funny size copper that nobody in plumbing supply today has seen. Fortunately the threaded fittings are standard so that should work but for this kind of fix you are on the right track with replacing the faucet. Bet it worked the treat.

Cheers,

John
