27 FB Toilet Conundrum
There is exactly one toilet that fits my 27 FB--a plastic Thetford Aqua Magic. It's a gravity toilet, which is fine. But, the interior of the pot is hollow with all sorts of ledges and edges for the most vile things to adhere to. And adhere they do. Why they didn't make a cylinder insert to keep this from happening and make it easy to clean is maybe the most insane part of their design. A child could do better.
So, why only this toilet? Simple. The distance from the flange to the wall can only accommodate ~7 1/2 inches of distance from the screw mount to the back edge of the toilet. Guess which toilet fits the bill. Hint: there's only one. I've seen a few other threads on this where someone has managed to squeeze a Dometic 310 in there, but I tried it and I'd need to hack three inches off the john or move the wall, which begs the question: Why would Airstream design something this poorly? Is it because they are single-handedly trying to keep Thetford in business? Who can say? What I can say is that it stinks, literally and metaphorically.
I'd love input from any 27 FBers out there who have encountered this issue or found a workaround. All I want is a non-plastic, non-hollow toilet. Maybe it's time to compost...idk.

Try these. They should allow fewer things to adhere to the bowl.

We use them in our 23FB, and they work very well and just as advertised. I wouldn’t camp without them.

We have had an Aqua Magic toilet in our Airstream since buying it new in 2002. Have we found it difficult to keep clean? Not really. Our answer is a toilet brush used with a bit of laundry detergent powder. Well, not really a toilet brush because most are too large for the Thetford toilet. We use a bottle brush which gets replaced every few years. I think the present version is from Oxo and it sits in a stainless steel cup when not in use.

In residential remodels where old 8" toilet offsets are encountered this product is typically used:
https://www.amazon.com/Soux-Chief-88.../dp/B004I415KS
It might require taking a few moments to inspect your drop parameters and opening size to determine if this mod is worth further investigation.

Ditto on the Dometic 310, fit fine into a 2016 30' Intl.
Add a wash nozzle hose for getting "stuff" down the toilet - that applies to any of the toilets. Required a tee in the water line to the toilet.

I just replaced the original plastic toilet in my 2007 Safari 27FB with the Dometic 310 model - a world of difference. Yes, that plastic model had a ridiculous number of crooks and crannies to "capture" crud and was a royal pain to keep clean.
I had to make some adjustments to the water line since the old toilet water inlet was near the top of the toilet while the 310 inlet is near the bottom, but no big deal.

Try a compost toilet. They can be position any where, however if you want to plumb the urine into the black tank it will need to have some access to the (removed) flange hole. I used a stock 3" PVC pipe plug and tapped a 1/2" NPT into one side of the square drive on the top. Now I use both tanks for grey water (74 gals total).

Coltonkat, Another Spokane Airstreamer! I put a 310 into my 2008 25FB a few years back and it fit with minimal issues. I don't have the trailer at home right now so I can't look but....the problem with mine was the plastic part of the lid at the back. I did have to trim off some of this but it didn't destroy either the function or the look of the lid. Go with the Dometic. It has a porcelain bowl and a decent flushing system.

Yes, they do in the same way toilet paper does. We use them in addition to the toilet brush mentioned above.

Here's the posts RE my attempt to put a 320 in a 27FB. The 320 is elongated ( doesn't fit) so Camping World Swapped it with a 310 (with money back) so I installed it with the sprayer add on. I took the old Thetford to our county recycle center and placed it with all the other old toilets. I'm sure someone made use of it. http://www.airforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1382638

So I ordered some but I can't believe you have to run water for a full 10 seconds before flushing like the instructions say, that seems way excessive.
one thousand one....one thousand two....

They seem to break down very well. We haven’t had issues.
Adding the water to the bowl to flush isn’t as bad as it seems.

I tried installing a 310, but it's 9 in. from flange screw to wall and I only have 7.5 in. of space in my 27 FB.

I think I might have read a thread of yours on the subject. We tried the 310, but had to take it back and get a new Thetford bc it didn't fit. Our 27 FB is a 2011. I'm not sure why ours would be different, but we only have 7.5 in of room to work with.
