2018 shower door drooping

I have had a recurring issue with our shower door constantly catching on the corner closest to the closet. I’ve removed the door sweep to prevent the third sweep installed yesterday from getting torn up.

Dealer said that the screw holding the door at the top bent and it was replaced yesterday. Looks like between driving it 30 miles from the dealer to our Rv site, the screw may have bent again?

Dealer said they couldn’t shim the door because it’s too narrow. Anyone else experience this and have a remedy? Trying to avoid taking it into the dealer again or maybe I just need a new door??

Many have confronted this problem in newer AS. I tried a bunch of proposed solutions and eventually replaced the entire door assembly. Now I travel with a small C clamp positioned to keep the door clamped to the frame so that it isn’t subject to bouncing around while on the road. Klugey but effective.

Since you’re still on warranty I’d have them replace.

Thanks. They recommended putting a #10 washer in there but I don’t think it will fit. Looks like I may need to bring it back in for them to look at 🤦🏽*♂️

There is a top secret shim that airstream factory used on ours, it's a little block that screws in to the shower door frame under the hinge side of the shower door.

Poor design on these doors. I removed my sweep too... The set screw at the top keeps loosening regardless of adjustments on just about every trip. Bottom of the door clears the sill / threshold by like 2mm on the closet side....

Here is the kit airstream will send you for free if you call them. It’s pretty crude. Two clear plastic blocks that you screw into the frame. Hinge of the door gets propped up on one of them. The other one goes on the opposite closet side to help prevent sagging.

I just haven’t had the time to install yet...

...also attaching a picture of this plastic block approach in action that I found on google...another owner used a bigger piece of white plastic cutting board as the shim... another one a bottle cap!

We have an older Classic, but we resolved the issue by taking out the glass door and putting in a Stoett door. https://www.stoett.com/product-categ...s-shower-door/ Works great, does not open into the hallway and does not fall off.

Go to your local Ace and buy a 1/2 inch tall plastic round spacer, put a little silicone on one end of the spacer, while lifting the door place the silicone side down in the corner track of the door, allow silicone to dry, problem solved. This take about 2 minutes to do and costs less than 50 cents.

I did the same from one of the drawers at Lowe's, but I used epoxy for a more permanent fix. It has worked well for years now.

I love the directions where it say "you will want to pre-drill it and countersink the hole..." Why the hell wouldn't they do that before sending the kit?

We did the same thing on our '96 34'er. Also did the same thing on a 2001 30'er.......The Stoett is easy to install, gives a cleaner look, does not leak, and in a lot lighter......hard to believe AS has used those PIA heavy glass doors as long as they have....

For whatever it's worth

And why do we have to call JC to get one? Send them out to the dealers so they can install them when someone brings their trailer in with this issue!!

I had the same problem. If you have the same situation, I found a solution which is still holding strong. I also replaced the door sweep after the fix and it is still in good condition.

See Post #3 in the following thread:

Good luck!

Did you have to trim the surrounding bracket on the Nautilus door provided by Stoett?
My shower opening is 65" x 20 7/8". Stoett doesn't provide custom widths. Our existing accordion door is very flimsy and hard to use. Thanks.

I fixed our 2005 Classic shower door that was a pain. Anyway, the fix seems to be permanent. The block of metal that slides inside the top frame is supposed to be secure with the screw...it does not work ! The fix I used was to drill a small hole 1/8 " that goes thru the frame and the metal block and out thru the far side frame. I used a roll pin and now the block cannot move. The roll pin was available at Ace Hardware. A roll pin is hardened metal with a slit down the entire length. Make sure the door is where you want it first. Drill the hole & hammer the pin in...the block cannot ever move again.

Our 2012 27’ Flying Cloud had shower door problems from the get go. Bad fit, hinges coming loose, etc. Our dealer fixed it several times under warranty, but we eventually got fed up and replaced it with a nice double shower curtain. We eliminated weight and made the space easier to clean to boot. It also provided extra space (with easier access) for carrying Jerry cans, water hoses, recyclables, etc. in transit. It works great for us.

Stoett

I did not need to add trim the opening. The width was fine. Next time, however, I would get a taller door. I went kind of short thinking I would not have to use the top support piece (but you do need it!). I just have to duck a bit to get under the top support piece. They make custom heights, so I would go almost to the top of the current opening and then subtract one or two inches.

2018 shower door drooping

This thread inspired me to finally install my little block this evening. Piece of cake... not pretty but does the job. Door operates nice and smooth too.

Fantastic! I called airstream yesterday and they knew exactly what I was talking about. A couple of photos to their email with my vin and a mailing address and I’ll have the parts when they arrive.

Looks like I’ll need to pick up some silicone too.

Thanks again everyone.
