where to put switch to turn on electric element for hot water

I am converting my hot water heater to also run on electricity via a Lightning Rod. As you likely know it will have a switch to turn the heating element on and the swithc has a indicator light to let you know when it is turned on.

I have a 2010 28 foot Flying Cloud and the only solution that I have come up with is to mount the switch under the sink inside the cabinet. Any other experience or recommendations on where to locate the switch would be appreciated.

Atwood makes a dual switch just for this purpose. It will replace the one you currently have. Like $8 on eBay

Issue is wiring. The existing switch is in the toilet which is in rear quadrant, curbside. The hot water heater is in front quadrant, road side.

I make the assumption that I would have to run some new wire since the existing switch is to turn propane on. I would really like to have just one selector switch or have both in one place however.

What's the chance of running the wiring across the trailer and up the wall in the toilet?

Your access should be somewhat similar.

Just about any place there is a false wall is a good place to pull wires.

The additional 20 amp feed is one of the best things I did on the rebuild.

With both the electric element and the gas running it's almost like having endless hot water.

I think you should be aware that the lightning rod is a controversial device with regards to safety.

In fact, I believe that Attwood and Surburban say they will void warranties if these are installed (not certain, needs confirmation).

Might be worth exercising the "Search" function to see what has already been said here about it...

Here is a photo of the switch assembly I mentioned earlier.
Additionally, I was thinking... you could replace the switch you currently use with a dual rocker. The new switch would simply select electric or gas in the spot you already have. A fiberglass fish tape should be able to pull a wire wherever you need to go.

I have heard mixed things about the Hot Rod devices... Just make sure it is plugged into/ wired into a known GFI circuit.

We previously had a 1993 25' Classic Excella, which we added the Hot Rod to have electric heat capability. One of the best things we did and enjoyed for years. We located the switch next to the bed so that I would see it (red light) when we went to bed.
Occasionally, we would forget and leave it on, only to be reminded when we would see it after retiring for the night.
