Waterflow/ pressure low and water pump noisy

When using the fresh water either in the gallery or bathroom faucet , the flow is weak and the pump is fairly noisy. When hooked up to city water the flow is much better , although not as it was once.

I am not very hands-on mechanically so please be gentle / precise with any advice. If I have to replace the water pump, which pump would you recommend ( 2018 Sprinter 24 GT ) and How difficult is it to replace it and what tools do I need?

Have you removed the aerators yet? The screw off the end of the spout. Might be some grit in there. I say this because flow is reduced on city water and the pump.

Thanks- I did check it and there was some grit which I removed, but it didn’t make a difference.

According to the manual there is a strainer located in front of the pump, but I am not able to remove the clear plastic cap.

The strainer was going to be my next suggestion. The strainer cap twists off, IIRC.

How often do you sanitize your tank and water lines?

With the aerator off do you have better flow? Sometimes hard water deposits will render the aerator useless. Replacement is the best option although soaking in vinegar might help.

I have never sanitized my tank nor waterlines.

I had a mobile tech look at it - he took of restrainer and there was some green deposit . After cleaning the restrainer and opening the bottom drain valve ( he thought that my tank my be full of "the green stuff" ), but only clean water came out, he removed the pump and put in his pump . At this point the pump wouldn't draw enough water to have any water flow. He changed back to my pump - with the same result : the pump is not receiving enough water from the inlet hose. At this point he recommended that I take it to an RV shop that can take off the water tank because the hoses are on top and and are not assessible without removing the tank (which he can't do)

Green deposit sounds like organic crud; hence, the the occasional sanitization of the tank. There could be more said crud in the lines.

Half cup of chlorine bleach into the tank. Fill the tank with tap water. Run the pump and open faucets until you smell chlorine at each faucet. Let it sit for a few hours or overnight. Sloshing it around might improve performance but I have no data that supports the hypothesis. Drain fresh water tank into the yard. Repeat (in your case) as necessary. Sort of like shocking a swimming pool which, according to my neighbors, may take a few treatments.

Noisy Water Pump

Three things will contribute to pump racket:
1. The pump is bad. Expensive and time consuming repair, try these two first.
2. Water lines beat against the shower wall when throbbing while pump is running. Use foam pipe insulation on the lines, try to hold them off of the shower wall in some fashion.
3. Solid lines from the pump transfer vibrations to the frame and to the lines going to the rest of the trailer. Replace the first couple feet with flexible lines like those used under residential sinks and toilets. They can be a pain to install, but it will help.
I had a water leak when purchased. The dealer fixed it, but in the process shortened the lines enough to cause them to beat against the shower wall. While addressing that, I installed flex lines on the pump. Big difference.

Poor water pump pressure and performance even with a new pump suggests you have a leak on the suction side
Are there air bubbles in the strainer? If not then you try tightening connections and clamps ( if you can) between the strainer and pump.
A messy solution might be to run the pump with the outlet hose removed. If you have a winterizing kit the hose for that might also fit the outlet connection so yo can direct the flow into a pail. It should be a substantial flow
All by way is suggesting trouble shooting

If in fact there is algae in the tank it will take more than a cup of bleach to remove any build up.
Half cup of bleach is definitely enough to sanitize however.
I might try a cup of bleach in a few gallons of water to see if it would clean scum from any filer inside the tank. I’m not even sure if there is a filter.JCW

Based on the troubleshooting by the mobile tech, he came to the same conclusion that I have a problem ( i.e. leak or blockage) in the suction side, which is not accessible with dropping the tank, which is not something he could do due to the weight of the tank.

All the pump is is a diaphragm, so the problem is generally the screens in the Faucets, the real issue is the faucets are designed for home use and restrict the pressure, take the restrictive out of the faucet connections as well.

Smile final solution - socket size to drain freshwater tank on AS Interstate GT24

Just wanted to give an update as to the resolution.

As it turned out, the problem was the water filter on my pump ( it was dirty). I don't know why the mobile Technician who came out didn't solve this ( he had removed the filter, and even replace my pump with his own presumable working pump, but couldn't get it to work). In addition, as JerryAck had mentioned, the faucet screen was clogged as well. So all is good now - until the next issue .

What size of socket do I need to drain the fresh water tank on my 2018 Airstream GT 24final

No socket needed for fresh water tank drain

On my 27fb underneath, there is a white plastic valve with a short (1/2 inch maybe) spigot between the two wheels on the road-side of the camper.

There is a sheet metal fin under it to prevent the water shooting out into the ground and boring a hole in the dirt. I only need to flip that from one side to the other to drain my freshwater tank. I found reaching behind it to get the lever away from the body of the camper is easier than trying to hook it with my finger and pull it, at least initially. It usually takes a while to drain fully, as I usually drain it post bleach sanitation and as part of winterizing. I leave it for 2+ hours before I check that it is done. For winterization there are also the low-point drains that are copper with 1/4 turn ball-valves for hot and cold, near the fresh water drain I am talking about.

Just remember to go back and close it before you start filling up again.
