water pipe broken

Pipe broke in water pump area at an inline filter.

Is replacement filter available anywhere? Like most things Airstream, extremely difficult to access so don't know if one of the newer filters will fit.

ALSO, I believe all lines are 1/4" ID. Local RV shop did not recognize the filter and had no 1/4" fittings. Suggested Lowe's.

Pictures attached. I don't know what he first one is. two red wires. Possibly Autofill (which doesn't work)? Readable on filter - "Water Flow with arrow" - right to left in picture. "Ambient temperature". Can't read Company name in red. Maybe "KG86042" and "AFP70268" at bottom.

Several connectors, some appear to be compression.

ANY suggestions greatly appreciated.

Your trailer has polybuyelyne plumbing. If you need to replace or add new pipe, like Pex, you will need a transition adapter. You can get them in push to fit Sharkbite style or crimp fit style.

I'm certain that little in line filter has been there for the entire life of the trailer. It is maybe 20% clogged, which doesn't leave much in a 1/4" pipe.
Should I worry about not replacing it?

My filter doesn't look like that. My trailer has a Shurflo strainer type. It has a 1/2" inlet and outlet. Mine is attached with hose clamps.

I don't think that is original Airstream install! As mentioned above, replace with a new filter, available many places and use Pex pipe with Sharkbite transition fittings to attach to your old Polybutylene. Not a big project!

Thank you. I think I can get 1/4" sharkbites at Lowes. I hate to put them into polybutelene but no real access to any length of it to replace.

While I'm in there, can anyone tell me what the device in the first picture is?

"Not as big project." To quote my deceased Airstream guru - "I need to hire a Little Person with 4' long arms and 2 elbows in each arm. I could charge Flat Rate Book rates and make a million dollars."

From the photos, I'm not sure that's a filter. It looks like a one-way check valve.

From the solenoid valve I see in the photos, is there by chance a switch near the water pump power switch/control panel labeled "Auto Fill" ? This was a neat feature on that era of rigs that when activated fills the fresh water tank to 3/4 full when turned on and the the trailer is connected to a fresh water source, then turns off automatically.

The others are right, the gray plumbing is poly, but newer pex can be intermingled with it via sharkbite fittings to make repairs with no trouble.

Best Regards,

JD

Yes there is an autofill switch. Hasn't worked since we bought trailer but I may be doing something wrong because it was in "better than showroom" condition when we bought it. Before the owner put it up for sale, his wife had him make a trip from Detroit to the mothership to replace the stone guards because "they had dents in them."

Off to Lowe's. I've depended on them for years for house stuff. Mainly because of their return policy. Not sure what fittings? Just buy a bunch and take back what you didn't need.

Thanks again to all for your help.

You are correct on the autofill line! My 1987 Limited had that and it never worked. I finally checked it out one day and everything had been removed and capped off. PO said that it had misfunctioned one time and he removed it. That does look like a check valve, but the hose clamp makes me think that somebody other than factory has been "working" on things. That is a solenoid valve in the picture. If you have no leaking water, best to leave alone!

I believe you will need 1/2" Sharkbite fittings, not 1/4"

The auto fill valve is 1/4" and Lowe's doesn't have any sharkbite type connectors to get me to 1/2". So going old fashioned way with reinforced poly tubing and barb/clamp connectors.

Half an hour to install three fittings. An hour and a half for the last one. But it is DONE!

Thank all y'all for the information.
