Water heater burner

I have a new to me 2007 Classic with the 6 gal Atwood water heater. The burner was sputtering and the original air screen was all rusty and would not move, so I ordered and installed a burner assembly. I still have the same issue but now every 10 seconds or so, the burner acts like it has been turned "on" and sounds like it should but only lasts for a few seconds. This is with the air screen fully open. With the screen almost closed it acts about the same. Do I need a new orifice? The trailer was in top covered storage for 11 of it's 14 years.

Thx!

Clean the orfice, and adjust the air until you get a nice flame. The adjustment changes with altitude, and a very small movement can get things burning nicely. Just a matter of taking your time to get it right!! I soak the orfice in alcohol for a few minutes and then blow out with air. A plastic bristle from a tooth brush works well. Don't use anything metal to clean it.

Orifice

Thank you for the instructions on how to clean the orifice. I knew not to use metal but never thought of using a toothbrush. I will try it today. When reinstalling the orifice, should I use teflon or pipe dope on the threads?

Thx again!

OK - Cleaned the orifice, it worked although the burner was burning better, still not what it should be. Took the burner assembly out again to make it line up better and now it won't light. The igniter is sparking. I checked the safety diode and it is working. how to I check to see if the gas is flowing? How so I check the circuit board although I doubt that is the problem here. I think it is the gas supply. Thank you!

And is your hot water tank full?

If it is not, and your thermostat is working correctly, the flame will not stay on with an empty tank.

Water Heater not lighting

Good morning - Turns out the extension cord I was using had a break and the batteries were getting low - hence not enough juice to light the heater. All works well now. Thx for your help.
