Water heater

Our 2021 had an on demand tankless heater. When boondocked, we try to limit showers to an absolute minimum. First attempts to shut off the shower head using the cutoff valve resulted in a slug of ice cold water. I cannot think of any different procedure or mid that would prevent this. So just asking if anyone is cleverer and able to avoid the ice cold wake up call after soaping up?

The problem I find with the tankless on-demand water heater, like the one on my GT23 2021, is that one needs to run (waste) at least one gallon of precious water before it reaches 90 F. Is anyone aware of a way to improve on this?

Replace with a truma on demand water heater..

The 6 gallon dometic, and suburban don't quite fit like they used to.

Thank you. How do they compare in terms of water ‘wasted’ before it reaches a minimum of 90F? Do they fit in the same space? How involved is the replacement? Do they work with the same VC juice (12V)?

Thanks!

This is a pretty good video explaining how the Truma differs. It seems to have a small tank, but it isn't called that because, well, it's tankless.

Truma describes the comfort model as "on demand" not "tankless".

Use 12v and propane, and are "smart". If the tank cools due to usage that doesn't trigger the flow requirements to fire up the burner, it still lights up the burner in whatever stage needed to warm the tank back up.

The only caveat is that you need a truma dealer to install your unit, they are not available "over the counter"

We've purchased a 2 gallon bucket for $2. Run the warm up water and use it for flushing if dry camping. If at state park with water connection but no sewer, then we just toss it out or send it down the black tank.

We've found judicious use of the black tank can give us 3 days or more dry camping with no uncomfortable issues.

The on demand heater will start to fire as soon as flow is detected. I figure most of the warm up water is cold line purge anyway.
