Water dripping from copper drain pipe....

I have a 72 airstream Safari which I pretty much fully updated the plumbing with pet except a small copper drain pipe behind my water heater next to the black water drain. It’s dripping water at a slow rate onto my banana wrap when connected to my house water and onto the pavement below. Is this normal? Pics to come soon.

Sounds like pressure relief valve or regulator. City water connection. What is the water pressure?

Can you see where the small copper line is inside the coach?

Why do you think it is a "drain pipe" -- can you see what it is connected to, and where it goes?

If it is a drain pipe, that would generally not have anything to do with city water pressure IMO, unless it IS connected to the water heater's PRV, as TGT suggested. At the top of your water heater, can you see the PRV? If so, turn off the city water, open a faucet inside to relieve the water pressure, and then flip the PRV handle up and down a few times, and leave it down/closed.

You may have grit in the PRV, which is common in areas with hard water, or well water which has not been carefully filtered. Do you use an inline hose filter like this one for both city water and filling your tank?

Photos will help.

I wonder if this used to be a pressure line for washing out the black water drain? My 76 Sovereign also had a copper line running back to the waste valve area. The copper ran from the galley sink area on the curb side over to the road side of the trailer and then to the back. There was a shutoff in the floor below the sink. I removed it completely to simplify the new plumbing.

If your PRV has failed, as many old ones do, usually a new one is easily available at a hardware or plumbing supply store. Just need good access, wrench(es), and some Teflon tape to swap them out.

Good luck,

Peter
