Turn off hot water heater for the Summer?

Is there any reason I should NOT disconnect my hot water heater for the Arizona Summer. I now take full showers with only the 'cold' water & that's even kinda too warm Complete newbie here: should I turn off the LP going to the heater, or simply unplug the igniter...? If I keep water flowing thru but don't heat it, it seems that I wouldn't need to empty, flush out... I'm wasting propane, and creating unnecessary additional heat by having the hwh kick on at night.
I'm not travelling, living in an RV park, and I will not need 'hot' water again until probably November.
Thanks very much!

Turn off water heater switch until you need hot water and you get cold water out of the faucet. If water is in the water heater, the ambient air temperature will warm it slightly from whatever you get from CG connection. No need to drain the water heater and using the hot water faucet will keep flushing the system.

Well said, Gene and Rich.

Welcome to the forum, Lynne!

We leave the switch off until we need warm/hot water. Ours has a quick recovery time. As Gene suggested, be sure to use the hot water line also at times, to keep the water fresh.

Cheers,

Peter

The Switch

Thanks everyone! but... where might this 'switch' be? Inside or outside? I'm not seeing anything like a power switch in either place. 'member, this is a 1981, with I think the original hwh.

Check your owner's manual. There should be be a 12-volt rocker switch, probably in the bathroom. If you don't have a manual, let us know and we can find one online via the Airstream site. Our 1985 Sovereign's switch was above the counter in the head.

Found the switch

Doesn't seem a very logical place... in the cupboard sorta below the sink and beside the toilet. Whaaat? Why not in the cupboard with the hwh.
Thanks everyone!
