Time to Replace Water Heater?
We have the original Atwood 6 gal DSI gas water heater in our '96 34'. Day before yesterday, the white nylon drain plug split, causing the tank water to squirt out.
We drained the tank, replaced the drain plug, and refilled the tank.
When we turned the heater on again, the heater fired. However, it appeared on the next heat cycle, the heater did not fire, as the red error light came on.
We waited, thinking something must have gotten wet that wasn't supposed to . . . so, several hours later, we turned it on again.
Since this incident, the heater will fire two to three times before it won't fire again. We turn it off, wait several hours (or overnight) and then turn it on again, where it works for several cycles & then exhibits the same behavior!
As well, the water seems to be considerably hotter.
This model of Atwood doesn't seem to have a temperature adjustment.
We were curious if the cracked plug has any relationship to this problem i.e. the computer board is causing the water to overheat & this intermittent shut down is just another symptom.
Any ideas to repair . . . or, is it time to replace the heater????
