Thinking of Replacing 2007 Vintage AquaJet 55 Water Pump

My 2008 Classic 25fb still has the Aquajet 55 water pump. What I don't like about it is when I have a faucet half open then the pump cycles on/off. This is very noticeable using the separate Delta water filtration faucet. I would like the faucets to behave more like a residential faucet, continuous flow without the faucet being fully open. Is that possible with a different pump?

Looking at the current Remco Aquajet 55 3.4gpm model shows its a variable speed pump. Not sure if my 2007 vintage Aquajet is a variable speed pump. It doesn't act like one when I turn on my kitchen faucet half way, it cycles on/off supplying water. Both the old an new provide 65psi.

Or should I go with a Shurflo Revolution 4008 which is 3 GPM and 55psi. It shows internal bypass/low cycling feature but I don't believe its a variable speed pump. Amps are close to the same 6.5/7 amps

Or do all current pumps behave the same with partially open kitchen/bath faucets?

Get a new pump if you want, but what’s needed is an accumulator tank. Threads on that.

Pump on mine is 28 years old. They don’t always last so long (and it’s not nearly as fancy as what you have), but it usually comes down to better pump mounts (see threads; double-mount on Sorbothane feet is my preference) and an accumulator.

I had a Shurflo accumulator connected for awhile but removed it. When turning off a faucet the pump would run longer to pressurize. I found it difficult to find a spot for it so mounted from a T fitting under the kitchensink so it wasn't an inline install put was shown in the instructions. The Aquajet instructions didn't recommend an accumulator.

Wondering if a smooth flow is possible without an accumulator with a more modern pump.

From what I've seen pumps with a bypass recommend not to use an accumulator.

Accumulator tank.

I added one to our trailer.

The stock pump is a variable speed pump, with which the manufacturer’s literature suggested against an accumulator tank.

I like it fine. It evens out flow and has stopped surges.

A midnight toilet flush will not activate the pump, most times.

Regards,

JD

We should start a thread on passive-aggressive trailering.

I nominate the midnight flush water pump noise as first entrant, ha!!

Second is loosening the stabilizers and wheel chocks.

Third is tilting the trailer upwards with the tongue jack

Fourth is bending a fan shaft on ventilator or blower

Fifth is opening the black tank vent stack in a closet

Sixth is misaligning any door hinge that it won’t close

Seventh is a thin full wedge under a mattress that ensures rolloff

Eighth is . . .

Agree. Job is straightforward. Took about 90 minutes to replace.

On your accumulator photo I see a fitting with two female ends with short hose. Is that one part?

I wish I had more room in my compartment. I need to see it the accumulator can be mounted down there and figure out how to connect to the original plumbing.

The tanks come with a “jumper” fitting and have a tee fitting on the tank.

One should be able to remove the outlet line, thread the included fitting to the pump and thread the outlet on the tee of the tank and done.

The shurflow tank is about 4”in diameter and 12” long. It has shock mounted feet.

Installation took me 15 minutes.

JD

I decided at first to add a Shuffle accumulator with my 2007 Aquajet. After I got the accumulator I decided to swap out the Aquajet with a Shurflo 4008 as the Aquajet started sputtering out the kitchen and bath faucets but not the toilet when the water level got down to about 25%. Today I took out the wardrobe floor, moved the furnace ducting and attached the accumulator to the shower cabinet wall and installed the Shurflo 4008, the output from the pump went to the accumulator via a flexible hose. Turned it on and the pump wouldn't stop running even after purging air out of all the faucets. Added 10psi more to the accumulator and the pump still wouldn't stop running. No leaks anywhere. Looks like an interaction between the pump and accumulator. I didn't want to mess with the bypass and pressure adjustments and decided to isolate the accumulator. Pump pressurized and stopped. Flow from the faucets is still smooth from the faucets. The separate Delta water filtration faucet at the kitchen sink still pulses a little but it has a much smaller flow vs the smallest faucet in the trailer but is much smoother with the Shurflo vs Aquajet.

The Shurflo instructions state an accumulator is not needed but seen a few youTube videos with the 4008/accumulator combo.

I'm happy with the way the pump works without the accumulator so I've removed it. Didn't have time to continue troubleshooting as we are using the trailer.

Today I decided to give the accumulator another try. Now that the new Shurflo pump is working I was thinking maybe the pump wasn't fully priming with the accumulator.

Removed the wardrobe floor again and hooked up the accumulator. The accumulator is pressurized to between 35lb and 40lb.

Success, the pump shuts off. The accumulator allows faucets to run smoothly while in a slow trickle and prevents the hammering. The Delta water filtration faucets runs smoothly now. You can hear the pump come on and off just using this faucet but the flow isn't pulsating.

Here is a photo of where I placed the accumulator. The furnace ducting was disconnected and moved out of the way. The right bulkhead is the shower wall and the left bulkhead is the fridge wall. The lower hose is the output to the trailer's plumbing.
