Surburban 5321A

Just did a water heater replacement when the old one started to leak. Closest thing I could find was a Suburban 5321A and it has been somewhat one a nightmare. It does not come with the flange that mounts it to the trailer. The old one had the flange made on to it. It is called the Control Housing. The guy at the factory said it came with the door kit and the part number was 6279APW but the ones I see online just show a door and no water heater frame. Seems like a scam by Suburban to force you to buy the kit which I am still not convinced is the correct part. Anyone had experience with this?

Have you checked what Woodland Airstream has? They sell the Dometic as well as the adapter flanges to retrofit in the opening of an older model.

Doors are sold separately so you can get the color you want.

Sorry - I thought that you hadn't yet bought the replacement so I was offering an alternative to the Suburban. Just re-read, and I'm guessing that I didn't have that right.

Hopefully you can find a similar adapter kit for yours.

My thought about why they sell the heater and the door parts separately still holds though - they have no way to know what color door you'll need, and it's a lot easier to sell them separately then to stock the heaters in multiple colors.

I have a door but there is no flange to mount the heater to the trailer.

Ok, feel stupid now. The flange has to be made by folding the lip around the edge of the heater box. There are slots where you fold the edges over at 90 deg. Instructions don't mention this.

That makes sense. Good that you found it.
