Quiet water Pump

Need to find a quiet water pump for a 2003 34ft . Any ideas? Mine sounds like a jet engine. DH

They can be pretty noisy. An accumulator might help. The problem is with the impulse pumps is the pressure pulses radiate through the plumbing amplifying the noise. The accumulator will damp these out. We don't use the pump that much so the noise is not a big issue.

The water pump that came with our 2005 Classic (bought used) was alway extremely noisy. If memory serves I believe is was made by "Aquatec."

After a couple of years use it failed and I bought a replacement from a local RV dealer - the make was "Shurflo.

The difference in noise level ... and water volume ..... was like night and day. We can barely hear it operate now.

I suppose it could have been that the "Aquatec" was in problems of some sort since we first got the trailer and just took a couple of seasons to fail completely.

Also, I recall that on one side (intake? delivery?) the "Aquatec" was hard-piped, whereas when I installed the Shurflo I made sure it had a foot of so of flex hose on each side and no doubt that helped a lot.

Brian.

Thanks for the info. I checked and have an Aquatec. Spoke with another Airstreamer this weekend and he suggested a Surflo too. I think a new pump is in my future. Was afraid I would wake up the whole camp with an early morning flush so had to walk to the park latrine. What a mess. thanks again. D. Hetzler.

The good news, from my experience, is that the noise is all inside the trailer- it's not really noticeable outside.

We put a Flojet Variable Speed R4515-743 into our 2013 FC 30
We replace the water pump when the AS was 3 months old. The old pump was noisy, and had an internal leak (pump cycling on every 30 seconds, and when connected to fresh water had a leak out of the FW tank overflow screen).
The more we've used the Flojet VSD pump, the more we like it. Pretty quiet.

Mounting the pump with some sound insulation under it might help reduce the "drum effect" noise from being screwed to the wood floor in the trailer. Flex hose either side will help reduce noise. We also installed a ShureFlo air expansion tank so there is no water hammer effect when shutting off a faucet that can cause plastic or even PEX fittings to eventually leak.

ShurFlo, or FloJet, in conjunction with the small accumulator tank will probably take care of the problem. In addition to that, I put a piece of one inch thick heavy rubber foam under the pump.
For whatever it's worth.

Loose (unsecured) pipes will add to the noise also,

What do you make of this silencing kit from SHURFlo? It looks like the hoses are looped during installation to absorb vibration?

Amazon.com: SHURflo 94-591-01 Pump Silencing Kit: Automotive

Might this help to reduce the pump's noise or is it just a gimmick? Would there be any issues with installing this in conjunction with an accumulator?

Hi, I made my own flexible hoses because I wanted them longer for looping and needed angled ends to fit my water pump. I added an accumulator later. All is good now.

I did the same as robertsunrus except the use of insulation around visible pipes and under the pump. We use the pump quite a bit this fix works well.

Looking at post #12 installation, does the pump have a built in filter or is there an external filter for the larger stuff in the water?

The "plan ahead for service" factory location for our water pump with built in filter that covers the area with water when opened is under two runs of duct work and wires at the bottom of the closet. We managed to get the air expansion tank in, but will contemplate the 1" rubber pad mentioned elsewhere to help with noise abatement.

There are always such great ideas to solve problems in this forum!

Hi, if you look at post number 11 you will see my external filter which connects to my fresh water PEX line from the tank.

How much noise do some of these pumps make?

Maybe I got lucky by accidentally getting one that won't wake the dead?

In our 2013 25FB International, the pump was just below the pillows on the bed, so if one or the other used the bathroom at night and flushed, the other was awakened by the growl noise only inches away from their ears. :roll eyes:

In our Classic, the water pump is down the hall beyond the shower under the closet floor, which resonates like a drum. I am hopeful a rubber pad will help reduce the din to a bearable non-awakening level.

Yea I could see how right under the bed could be an issue no doubt.
