Loud water pump - why?

Our 25FB, 2015 is a great tt. We are happy and have not a lot of complaints about layout, quality, design, but there is one issue that is simply not making sense. The issue is the water pump. Why does this thing have to be so loud? For 80K+, I would expect something that is whisper quiet, not waking up everyone when somebody needs to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Are these loud pumps really state-of-art? Any alternatives?

I am sure if it is a defective pump it will be warranted. 1st depending on the noise, if it internal to the pump, could be a defect. Otherwise could be a vibration problem, whereas the pump needs to be mounted properly with rubber grommets to the mounting surface. Find the pump and investigate, good luck. It that fails see a dealer.

They are loud

I find it useful…You know if there is a leak. You can tell when you are running out of water.

You could turn the pump off at night. The water in the bowl would give you one flush. Keep a jug of water in the bathroom.

The noise is probably the pump or strainer assembly touching something when it's running. Look closely to see if there is anything touching the pump, such as pipes, wires, even a piece of cabinetry. The OEM pumps are usually quiet.

Is this your first RV. They are all noisy ito a certain degree except for pumps locacated in basement storage of Class A/C far below the living area.

The pump in my unit is whisper quiet except when I have not tightened the intake at the pump connection after winterizing. A small air leak on the intake side will result in a racket. Jim

On my 25', the shelf holding the water pump came loose. Only a couple of short screws were holding it. A couple of longer screws tightened it up and cut the noise down significantly.

It's possible that it's not the pump but one of the pex lines. If they are not completely anchored they can vibrate against the trailer somewhere.

An Accumulator Tank can be added to the system as a buffer to reduce cycling every time the water is used.

Anyone have experience with one of these? Does it also help quiet the system when the pump is running?

Question

I mounted our WP on 'rubber feet' much less noise/vibration.

Question.....why is the WP on at night? (or when no-ones in the trailer)

I woke up in the middle of the night to a running pump and a flooded bathroom.
Lesson learned...cross threaded fitting during the build, split under pressure.

Thank you for all the good suggestions. I think that nothing is wrong with our pump, perhaps it is vibrating against something and I will investigate ways to make the beast more quiet. In our previous tt (a 20FC), the noise level was the same. Also in our converted pop top VW years ago. I am just thinking that with all the technologies available, why does the pump has to be intrinsically loud AND why is the factory installation not paying attention to vibration. Well, I guess it will be time for rubber feet. Also good point to check the connections to avoid floods - thank you Bob for the images; very educating.

Welcome to the good life! I purchased a Shur-flo pump silencer kit. It is not silent but it is quieter. Of course this only matters when boon docking (without hookups) I do not use the pump when on city water. Bob's solution may work as good, dunno.

Hi, I made my own flexible water pump hoses and installed an accumulator. It is so quiet now.

Same experience here, with it being loud. I stuffed a little insulation in the cavity to mufffle it. That helped a little bit. It is ridiculous that the trailer has all these noise issues! Water pump, Fridge fan and converter fan all very loud stock new. If I ruled the world things would certainly be different.

Capt,

The mounts I used,(pictured), were for mounting an electric fuel pump, something saved from my knuckle busting daze. The male mount screws on both ends required an extra mount block under the water pump.

If I was doing it again I would use a soft rubber base mount,, (the new one listed in this link), it can be mounted directly to the existing platform.

More info

Thanks for the link Bob. The site talks about an "e-store" but it does not look like they sell online. Now that I know what I'm looking for I will try and find a source online.

Thanks again

Cheers
Doug

B the way. Does anyone have a recommendation for an accumulator?

Thanks
Doug

I installed one of these in my Safari. It worked flawlessly for 15 years. Google, "accumulator tank, Home Depot ".

8.5 in. W x 11.5 in. D x 8.5 in. H Pre-Pressurized Steel Water Expansion Tank.

I stuffed it up under the sink. Jim

Doug,

You can order from that site.

From the "more info" link I posted.
Click on "view & buy products" under the picture.
Scroll down & click on the catalog # you want & order.
